Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:
“When she was a child, the witch locked her away in a tower that had neither doors nor stairs.” – a cover featuring a Tower
I think there’s quite a few book titles available for this week’s theme. It will be interesting to see what everyone chooses. My choice : Tower Lord (Raven’s Shadow #2) by Anthony Ryan
I must say I rather like the cover with the figure riding away on horseback but, I’m going to be predictable this week and go with a cover that I’m familiar with:

Which is your favourite?
Next week – a cover featuring seeds/spores
Future themes:
30th March – ‘A little soil to make it grow’ – a cover featuring seeds/spores
6th April – “After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations.” – a cover featuring a family
13th April – ‘lawns and rocks and heather and different sorts of trees, lay spread out below them, the river winding through it’ – a cover featuring a panorama
20th April – Where there’s fire there’s… – a cover featuring smoke
27th April – ‘Those darling byegone times… with their delicious fortresses, and their dear old dungeons, and their delightful places of torture’ – a cover that is positively mediaeval
4th May- ‘A Hand without a hand? A bad jape, sister.’ – a cover featuring a hand/hands
11th May – ‘Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth’ – a cover featuring a dinosaur/s
18th May – ‘Let’s talk of graves, of worms, and epitaphs;’ – a cover featuring a gravestone
25th May – Trip trap, trip trap, trip trap – a cover featuring footsteps
1st June – clinging and invasive – a cover featuring creeping vines
8th June – Raining Cats and Dogs – a cover featuring a stormy sky
I like the one you chose, but my favorite is the fourth cover on the top row. It looks mysterious.
It does look mysterious and it fits the theme really well.
Lynn 😀
So many good choices but I like the one you picked as well. Some of them just look too busy.
It’s a case of the cover I was most familiar with.
Lynn 😀
I think I like the one that says ” Blood Song” best, although I’m not sure why the title is different😊
I’m not sure – for a moment I thought I’d picked the wrong book tbh and had to go and check! Strange indeed.

The one you picked I like third best. My favorite is a toss up between the 2nd and 4th covers!
I can see where you’re coming from – some good fantasy covers.
Lynn 😀
There’s definitely a lot to choose from with this topic — I think I would’ve picked Tower of Thorns by Marillier. For this book, my favourite cover is the third one: something about it is giving me Minas Morgul vibes!
Tower of Thorns and Girl in the Tower were my first two thoughts – although I wasn’t sure there were alternative covers for the Marillier book (I’ll have to go and check) – tbh I tried to go with something different because I seem to keep banging on about both those books at the moment – which is a good thing of course, but I thought I’d break it up a little.
Lynn 😀
Your choice is great, a very powerful image, especially for the choice of not showing the character’s full figure, but only the hands holding the bow and arrow.
I also keep looking at the third cover from the left in the first row: somehow it reminds me of the representation of Cirith Ungol in Peter Jackson’s LOTR… 🙂
Yes, I see completely what you mean, now I can’t shake that image – although I never mind being reminded of anything in connection with LOTR.
Lynn 😀
I had no idea there were so many covers for this book! Your choice is the edition I own, though I think I’m more partial to the second one in the first row.
That’s a good one – and fits this week’s theme perfectly.
Lynn 😀
Lynn, I agree with your choice although I also rather like the eerie third covers too. 🙂
Yes, I liked that too.

You know what… I actually love the majority of these covers 😀 My favourites are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th but the others don’t come far behind. If you pushed me to choose I’d say the 3rd 😀 Love that dramatic green blue colouring on the building – very eerie!! 😀
The 3rd is a great cover.
Lynn 😀
What a great choice for this theme, Lynn:). My favourite cover is the tower9 candidate on the top row as it has the tower and the warrior.
It is a good one.
