“And we danced, on the brink of an unknown future, to an echo from a vanished past.”

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy .   This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.   Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:

‘Groovy baby’ – a cover that is: Retro

I had a few covers in mind for this week’s theme but not all of them quite worked out.  I’ve gone for a book that I own but haven’t read yet – Stephen King’s Joyland.  Let me know if you’ve read this and think I need to move it up the tbr.

Probably not surprisingly there was a large number of covers for this title.  My favourite  (although I also liked the middle cover, middle row) just has to be:

Which is your favourite?

Next week – a cover featuring a staircase

23rd February – “There are too many steps in this castle, and it seems to me they add a few every night, just to vex me”  – a cover featuring a staircase

The green dress cover is my favorite, too! I haven’t read this, though. Stephen King scares me!

    • @lynnsbooks

Haha – yes, I think he has that effect on a few people.
      Lynn 😀

What a fantastic choice for this week’s theme, Lynn. I do love your favourite, but the one that edges it for me is joyland6 – the other cover featuring a blonde. I love the idea of the girl wandering around a deserted amusement park clad in nothing but a bundle of material… Typical pulp cover:)

    • @lynnsbooks

It is a great pulp cover. I came very close to choosing that one.
      Lynn 😀

  3. Barb (boxermommyreads)

Yes, read Joyland! I thoroughly enjoyed it and it’s short enough that you can read it during a nice lazy afternoon. I like the cover you chose, and it’s the one I actually own, but I think I like the last one in the second row just as well. I think it’s the dark colors, the fog and the ferris wheel that does it for me. Great choice this week.

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes, I like that cover too – it feels very ‘Stephen King’ with the font doesn’t it.
      Lynn 😀

  4. Carmen

    Yes. Definitely that one.

  5. Tammy

I have the copy of your favorite cover, and I’ve read this (seriously a long time ago!) and I don’t remember much about it other than it was ok and a quick read. I do love the cover though! Great choice for “groovy.”

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, I love that cover. I should really pick it up, especially if it’s a quick read.
      Lynn 😀

  6. DJ (@MyLifeMyBooksMyEscape)

As soon as I saw it Joyland, the winner popped into my head before I even looked all the cover you choose 😉

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, it was in my mind for this week’s theme so it was always going to be my pick of the week.
      Lynn 😀

This is the first time I heard about this title by King, which is kind of worrisome 🙂 so I went to Google for information, and given what I learned there, I’d say the cover you choose is perfect, as is the one beside it, with the entrance to the amusement park that almost looks like a cemetery… Well, this is King after all!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, I’ve heard surprisingly little about this title. I saw it one year when I was on a short break in St Ives and I loved the cover. Still haven’t read it of course.
      Lynn 😀

[…] This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but up-kept by Lynn’s Book Blog. […]

  9. PerfectlyTolerable

I like the third one in the top row!

  10. jessicabookworm

I haven’t read this, but I agree with your first and second cover choice 🙂

  11. rabbitearsblog

Oooh! Great pick! I haven’t finished reading Joyland yet, but I will soon! I agree with your cover choice too!

  12. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

I think I like that one too, just because it’s the most distinct and memorable. This is a book I want to read as well!

    • @lynnsbooks

I always had this cover in mind for this theme for some reason, it just stuck in my mind and I love that cover.
      Lynn 😀

  13. Greg

I love retro style or pulp type covers so the one you picked is my favorite too. In fact whenever I see that cover I think how cool it is! I like the middle row middle one too though. Those two would be my faves.

    • @lynnsbooks

I also love retro covers so this week was perfect. I was trying to come up with something different so I was happy with this one.
