Every Tuesday over at The Broke and Bookish we all get to look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) examples to demonstrate that particular topic. After this week Top Ten Tuesday will be moving to That Artsy Reader Girl and future week’s topics can be found here. This week’s topic is :
Ten Books I Meant To Read In 2017 But Didn’t Get To (but mean to read in 2018):
- Tower of Thorns by Juliet Marillier. The books in the Blackthorn & Grim series are beautiful to look at and equally beautiful to read.
- Veil of the Deserters by Jeff Salyards. I loved the first book in this series (Scourge of the Betrayers and really need to pick this one up.
- The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman – New York in the 1970s – and vampires. Of course I have to read this.
- Lost Boy by Christina Henry – will I ever get bored of retellings or reimagining of Peter Pan? Possibly not.
- The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine – to quote from GRs ‘a “gorgeous and bewitching” reimagining of the fairytale of the Twelve Dancing Princesses as flappers during the Roaring Twenties in Manhattan. OMG – why haven’t I read this one yet.
- Doomsday Book by Connie Willis – I heard such glowing things for this one that I rushed to buy it – and yet here it sits. Go figure.
- Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch – a series I intend to complete.
- Beyond Redemption by Michael R Fletcher – the ultimate grim dark?? I need to read it and find out.
- The Straight Razor Cure by Daniel Polansky. This book received 5*s from Mark Lawrence – which is good enough for me.
- Den of Wolves by Juliet Marillier – the third book in the Blackthorn and Grim series – now if I can only get my act together and read No.1 this can then happen. Make it so.
I sooooo want to read The Girls at the Kingfisher Club!
I know – I can’t believe I’ve not got to it yet.
Lynn 😀
I STILL haven’t read Juliet Marillier’s series and I have alk three books! Shameful. I’d love to get to them soon. Lost Boy was awesome!
They’re such lovely books that even if I never read them – I still want to have them! But, I will read them this year.
Lynn 😀
Lost Boy solidified my love affair with Captain Hook. I loved that book so much. I can’t believe I haven’t read The Lesser Dead yet, especially given how much I loved The Suicide Motor Club.
I was so excited to pick up Lost Boy and then before I knew it we were into 2018. What happened.
Anyway, to this year then.
Lynn 😀
Moon Over Soho is sitting on my shelf waiting for me to read it! I meant to continue the series in 2017 and just never got around to it. I’ve heard many good things about Lost Boy, it’s on my TBR as well!
Well, let’s hope that we make some excellent progress with all our tbr piles this year.
Lynn 😀
The cover for The Lost Boy is very nicely understated. I like it a lot.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!
I do like that cover – although there is an alternative version that is quite bloody!
Lynn 😀
I’m meaning to finish the Ben Aaronovitch’s series too. I’m up to The Hanging Tree.
You’re doing better than me then – I do want to continue though. I enjoyed the first and I really like the author.
Lynn 😀
Good luck with reading these books! 🙂
Thanks 😀
I REALLY enjoyed Jefff Salyard’s series! It one of those series where not only does each book get better, the story’s scope expands more and more, and you can see how greatly Jeff, as a writer and story teller, improved with each installment.
Good to know because I loved the first book and so if the next books are even better what the heck am I waiting for!
Lynn 😀
Tower of Thorns was great! I liked it much better than the first book, and the third was even better. Those are the only two off your list that I’ve read. 🙈
Here’s my TTT: http://buecher-monster.de/2018/01/09/top-10-tuesday-ten-books-we-meant-to-read-in-2017-but-didnt-get-to-and-totallyyyy-plan-to-get-to-in-2018/ 😊
That’s really good to hear – I can’t wait to read both 😀
Den of Wolves is the amazing conclusion to Juliet Marillier’s trilogy, and my only complaint is that it’s now over: I know you will enjoy these books greatly and I can’t wait to read your reviews! 🙂
I can’t wait to read them both and in fact it puzzles me why I’ve left it so long.
Lynn 😀
Nice list of books!! I hope you read them all in 2018!! Here’s a link to my TTT post for this week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2018/01/top-ten-tuesday-ten-books-i-meant-to.html
Thanks 😀
I love the sound of The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine 😀 Happy catching up!
I hope I enjoy that one as much as I expect – and, if I ever get round to finishing the books on here I’ll send you my copy – only if it works out well of course
Lynn 😀
HAHA I do hope you enjoy it 😀
Me too.
Lynn 😀
I read The Girls at the Kingfisher Club a while ago and didn’t love it, but maybe you’ll feel differently. 🙂 I’m planning to start the Peter Grant series this year — I’ve heard such good things! Good luck catching up in 2018!
Same to you for 2018. Lynn 😀
You haven’t read BEYOND REDEMPTION yet?!?
Nooooooooooooo!
I know, but, all good things to those who wait. Lynn 😀
That is an awesome stack. I keep meaning to read The Lesser Dead. I’ve heard so many great things.
I know – plus vampires – so consider me sold.
Lynn 😀
I love Juliet Marillier. I wasn’t as much a fan of this latest series, but I still want to continue it. Good luck picking up all these this year!
Thanks – I will probably need all the look I can get because every time I see a new book I get a rush of grabby hands. I need help.
Lynn 😀
Going through this list is giving me the feels. I loved so many of these books! Definitely push the Marillier books to the top of your list if you can, the trilogy is worth completing! Veil of the Deserters too. And of course I hope you get a chance to catch up with the the Rivers of London series soon 😀
Haha – so difficult to keep up with all these good books but I’m definitely making 2018 a year where I read some of my own books.
Lynn 😀
Love the diversity in your list Lynn. Thanks for reminding me that Ben Aaronovitch’s series is one I’ve been wanting to start for a long time!
Thanks – I had so many books to choose from – I’m quite ashamed. I can’t believe the way in which I rush out to buy these books, obsessively, then leave them sitting on a shelf. This year will be the ONE.
Lynn 😀
I must catch up with that series. I enjoyed the first book but it was so long ago that I think a reread might be necessary.
Thanks for stopping by.
Lynn 😀
The Lesser Dead was one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to, A+ rating over at the Guilded Earlobe blog. I highly recommend it. I’m sure the book is a great read regardless, Christopher Buehlman can write! But he narrates the audiobook and, wow. Enjoy!
Its so good when an author narrates – well, I’ve not a lot of experience but Neil Gaiman reads quite a lot of his own work and it’s just really good. I’m looking forward to this one very much.
Thanks
Lynn 😀
I had forgotten about Lost Boy! That one does sound excellent. I hope you are able to get to all these books and enjoy them.
Thanks – I hope so too.
Lynn 😀
Yes… you need to stop sleeping at the very least tuck into The Doomsday Book and The Straight Razor Cure:)). As for the rest… I need to tuck into the Juliet Marillier series – it has somehow slipped past my radar, but she is an author I really have enjoyed in the past – thank you for sharing this one! And The Lost Boy looks wonderful, too…
The Lost Boy seems to have a lot of love so I should get to it soon. I really like the look of The Doomsday Book. Can’t wait to read it.
Lynn 😀
I really look forward to hearing what you think of The Doomsday Book:)
Me too 😀
I’m really enjoying the Aaronovitch books. I liked Lost Boys, but in that it’s almost too creepy for me sort of way all her books strike me.
Yes, I think I have another book by the same author which I must go and hunt for.
Lynn 😀
I love this list because there’s so much here that I haven’t read but looks brilliant, especially The Girls at the Kingfisher Club. Can’t believe I’ve never heard of that one because now I instantly want to read it 🙂
It’s a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses. I love the sound of it and can’t believe I’ve left it so long to pick up.
Lynn 😀
Oh my gosh, I have way too many books for this prompt. 😂 From what you’ve got here, I can personally attest that you should definitely make Marillier a priority. She is the queen!
I’ve only read one of her books but I think you’ve got that description spot on.
Lynn 😀
