Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:
‘Me and my….’ – a cover featuring a Shadow
My other choice for this was going to be Nevernight but I think I’ve featured it before so went for something different. I read Shadow of the Wind a long time ago and enjoyed it very much – a quote from Goodreads to whet your appetite: ‘The international literary sensation, about a boy’s quest through the secrets and shadows of postwar Barcelona for a mysterious author whose book has proved as dangerous to own as it is impossible to forget.’
My favourite is the last one. It’s a good choice for this week’s theme with the shadow but I like the stance of the character on the front – he looks very furtive:

Which is your favourite?
Next week – a cover featuring a couple
Future themes:
27th October 2017 – “Thus with a kiss I die” – a cover featuring a couple
3rd November 2017 – ‘Desperate affairs require desperate measures’ – a regency style cover
10th November 2017 – ‘zip it, lock it and throw away the key – a cover featuring a key
17th November 2017 – Snap! – a cover featuring a double image or reflection
24th November 2017 – ‘I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently’ – a cover featuring snow
1st December 2017 – The pen is mightier than the sword – a cover featuring a fancy font
8th December 2017 – ‘Do not go gentle’ – a cover featuring the night…
15th December 2017 – Hubble bubble toil and trouble – a cover featuring a portion/perfume bottle
For some reason I’m drawn to the 5th one (top right hand corner). Maybe it’s the fog or perhaps it’s giving me an Exorcist vibe. The one you picked is a close second for me. I have never read this book but know lots of people love it.
Anything with an Exorcist vibe can definitely have my vote.

I like your choice! The book becomes almost a building and the lamp-post adds to the effect: very eye-catching 🙂
Yeah, my thoughts too. Very eye catching.
Lynn 😀
that’s my favorite as well. I like the walking into the book aesthetic
Yeah, that’s what I like about it too.
Lynn 😀
Oh wow! Well you’ve certainly nailed it this week – that is an inspired book choice and I completely agree with your cover favourite, too. Who could possibly leave that particular book on a shelf with a cover like that?
The cover is great isn’t it.
Lynn 😀
It really, really is:))
I like the Spanish cover, which is the one I own, but I like the one you chose too.
Yeah, I’m usually partial to the covers on the books I own – which I suppose makes sense really, after all they probably drew your eye and made you want to pick them up in the first place.
Lynn 😀
I haven’t heard of this book before. I like your choice too, it’s the only one that really caught my attention because of the art style and imagery!
Yeah, that cover really caught my eye. This is a book that I read years ago, I enjoyed it but tbh I’d be hard pressed to remember fully what happened now – I’d need a reread.
Lynn 😀
I’ve not read this book but I like your choice and I like the fourth and sixth cover, the latter of which is the one I’ve seen in the shops.
It was a read from quite a few years ago, I think I read it whilst on holiday in France – that cover is a new one though.
