“O happy dagger! This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die.”
Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:
The kindest use a knife, because the dead so soon grow cold (A cover which features a knife)
This week I’ve gone for: The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials #2) by Philip Pullman
To be honest I’m not totally sure I have a favourite this week! Although I’m strangely drawn to the cat cover and the red cover with the balloon.
Which is your favourite?
Next week – Fire
Future themes:
4th August 2017 – From the ashes a fire shall be woken (A cover which features fire)
11th August 2017- No soldier outlives a thousand chances (A cover which features a soldier)
18th August 2017 – The world was my oyster but I used the wrong fork (A cover which features food)
25th August 2017 – If I be waspish, best beware my sting (A cover which features an insect)
1st September 2017 – Being born in a stable does not make one a horse (A cover which features a horse)
8th September 2017 – That great condenser of moral chaos, The City (A cover which features a city)
Yep, I’m a dog person…but yep, it’s the cat cover that catches my eye. Although there are quite a few good ones here. I really need to pick this series up.
I thought this series was great. The first one was my favourite but it is good throughout.
Lynn 😀
The Subtle Knife is a great choice for this week’s FF:). My favourite is the 5th cover…
I actually struggled a little this week – which I totally didn’t expect.
Lynn 😀
I like the colors in the first cover of the second row, but the cat is quite distracting and keeps drawing my attention… 😉
I like the second cover in the first row, though that cat’s eyes are quite bewitching. 🙂
Yeah, it’s not the usual sort of cover that I would like but it really is bewitching.
Lynn 😀
I don’t know if I have a favorite either, but like you my attention was immediately drawn to the one with the cat. Must be it’s mesmerizing gaze!
Yeah – it’s hypnotic isn’t it.
Lynn 😀
The first one’s my fav only because I have this copy and it’s near and dear to my heart 🙂
That is exactly how I usually feel too tbh.
Lynn 😀
I love the fourth one, with the embossed-looking gold square. Though the red hot air balloon is a close second. These are some really great covers!
They’re all quite different aren’t they – it was a bit of a surprise and I think there were quite a few more but I was trying to keep the numbers reasonable.
Lynn 😀
I am hoping to re-read this very soon 🙂 My copy has the red dagger cover, however I am also very drawn to the cat cover too. Completely out of character for me though, I am not enjoying the purple dagger cover! 😀
I thought of you with that cover – it was a test!! And you passed with flying covers because it isn’t the best cover is it.
Lynn 😀
No it really isn’t…even though its purple… 😛
I own the second one, but I’d rather own the fourth one! Something about that gold embossing and the font is appealing, I can imagine the physical copy would look even better. The 5th and 6th ones are nice too.
Lots of great covers for this book and in fact for the whole of the series – not really a surprise given it’s popularity.
Lynn 😀

I hope you enjoy your reread.
