Every Tuesday over at The Broke and Bookish we all get to look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) examples to demonstrate that particular topic. This week’s topic is:
Cover Theme Freebie (I’ve opted for covers with dragons)
No problem finding 10 this week, in fact the problem will be making myself stop. I’ve gone for a selection of covers from books I’ve read, some from my tbr and also from my wishlist:
1. The Lady Trent series by Marie Brennan – because these have got to be some of the most outstanding covers ever! I’ve read the first three and have bought the fourth and fifth. Just need to now read them:
2. The Copper Promise series by Jen Williams – this is an absolutely excellent series that I highly recommend:
3. Tolkien’s The Hobbit:
4. Jacqueline Carey’s Naamah’s Kiss
5. Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan – I’ve not read this one yet but I did purchase a copy – check out these two covers – which is your favourite
6. Heartsone by Elle Katharine White – a thoroughly enjoyable retelling of Pride and Prejudice – with dragons no less.

7. Chasing Embers by James Bennett is the first in the Ben Garston series which got off to a good start.

8. The Blood Dragon Empire by Andy Remic – not for the feint hearted this one.
9. The Temeraire series by Naomi Novak – I’ve not read these but they are on the wishlist (I’ve gone with the first three book covers in the series)
10. The Dragon’s Blade series by Michael R Miller – I haven’t read these yet but they’re on my wishlist and the covers are gorgeous.
What lovely covers! Thanks for sharing, Lynn. I am reading Michael Miller’s book now. The cover is not just pretty but so relevant. I found that out after a third of the book was over, just yesterday.
How intriguing – can’t wait to get to that.
Lynn 😀
Well… I’m in cover heaven! They are all absolutely GORGEOUS! Of course the fact they all portray dragons doesn’t hurt but it’s simply not fair to make books I haven’t yet read so irresistible!
They’re all so lovely – you have to have them….
Lynn 😀
I know… I know…
I need to check out the Lady Trent series. 🙂
I really like them, period drama with a bit of a rogue in Lady Trent who simply refuses to conform.
Lynn 😀
Gotta love rebellious women. 😉
Yes you do 😀
Excellent choice of theme, and covers! 🙂
Many thanks 😀
So many dragons! And all of them gorgeous 🙂
I must say that those on the Andy Remic covers look quite deadly…
They really do – and those are some downright gritty and bloody violent stories to go with them.
Lynn 😀
I do want to read Heart Stone! And draaaaaaaaaagons! So pretty!
Heartstone was great for me because I love Pride and Prejudice and it really did echo the original story quite strongly – with obvious changes to accommodate the supernatural elements.
I really enjoyed it.
Lynn 😀
The Lady Trent covers are gorgeous. If it weren’t for Todd Lockwood’s beautiful art, I might not have even read book one – I remember picking it up in the bookstore just because I was drawn to the cover. 🙂
That cover was definitely the original motivation to pick up – it’s just so lovely and the whole set together – wow.
Lynn 😀
So many great covers! The Copper Promise and Lady Trent series ones are just beautiful… I haven’t read either series yet but every time I see those covers I am tempted.
I highly recommend both – very different but really good.
Lynn 😀
I love that you did a whole list of dragon covers…I do love a dragon! I have a copy of The Dragon’s Blade by Michael R Miller, which I really want to read soon. And, as for Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan it has to be the second cover for me: that dragon breathing fire is badass 😀
I also want to read Dragon’s Blade soon. It will be interesting to see what we both make of it.
Lynn 😀
Couldn’t agree more on The Lady Trent series: they have some of the most iconic and recognizable covers in modern fantasy novels, I think! They’re so gorgeous.
They’re so cool too – I love the way the cover wraps round. Love them.
Lynn 😀
[…] – talking dragons even. Lots of dragons can be found here – but it couldn’t hurt to have more could […]
Loved your spin on this topic Lynn! I’m really digging the covers for the The Dragon’s Blade series!
They’re gorgeous covers – really impressive.
Lynn 😀
