Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:
16 December – Give a Girl the Right Shoes and she can conquor the world – a cover with shoes]
This week my choice is the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum – inspired by the Ruby Slippers. (believe me when I say there are A LOT of covers for this book, and I don’t intend to post them all because life is too short. But here are a few and some of these are absolutely gorgeous:
It was really tough choosing a winner because these are all so lovely but when it came down to it I was torn between the picture with Toto on the Yellow Brick Road; or
my winner:

I love this – it’s so beautiful with the vivid colours.
Which is your favourite??
If you fancy joining in with the FFO the themes for the next few weeks are below.
23rd December – The first noel… – a cover with angels
30th December – Ho ho ho! To the bottle I go… – a cover with drink
Great choice for a book! I had a nightmare with this damn theme, shoes, ggrrr! 😂
I’m sorry you found this one so hard, Drew – there was me thinking it was a relatively easy one… The Time Traveler’s Wife and Cinders are two fairly recent mainstream reads featuring shoes. But I don’t suppose grimdark covers feature shoes all that much, do they?
Cinder is my choice!😂 It’s scheduled for midday to be posted. No, no shoes on grimdark, it all adds to the fun though.😀
Phew! At least you did find one – and Cinder is a great choice:)).
I think that’s the challenge – we must find a fantasy book with shoes – no YA!
Lynn 😀
Alas, I failed then, I also failed next weeks theme to if we can’t have Y-A but it’s Y-A and it’s Christmas, nice for the kids!😂
Haha – no such thing as ‘failed’ you found the perfect book – just not one that you particularly want to read! As it is The Wizard of Oz is a children’s book so there you go. 😀 I do feel the need to go and check out all my books though to see if I can find some sort of epic fantasy or dark book that has shoes on it!
That is true, I also try and find a proper “fantasy” book first but if all else fails then any genre is fair game.😂
The Time Traveller’s Wife – I should have thought of that one! Doh.
Lynn 😀
I know what you mean – I thought Cinder was the obvious choice, then I thought The Devil Wears Prada – but it’s not fantasy.
Lynn 😀
Alas, there was no obvious choice for me!😂
I love your choice of book, Lynn – there were several others I’d considered, but not even thought about The Wizard of Oz… My favourite cover is the tornado with the lovely red shoe right in the centre – I love the sense of action and movement.
There really are some lovely covers for this book. I had a hard time choosing a favourite.
Lynn 😀
Great choice of book/covers for this theme! I like the blue cover with the red shoe.
It’s a lovely cover.
Lynn 😀
So many covers indeed! And I like the one with the red shoes peeking from under the title’s banner: for some unknown reason that image speaks loudly of fairy-tale to me 🙂
I really like that cover too.
Lynn 😀
Wow, you weren’t kidding when you said there were a lot of covers for this one! I like the one you chose, and also yellowbrick road/emerald green cover. It just feels so nostalgic!
There are a lot of covers for this one but there usually is for the classics. I love the covers that have the nostalgic feel and I really like the cover with Toto on the yellow brick road.
Lynn 😀
Great book choice! I would have had a lot of trouble with the theme this week. I can’t think of any books I’ve read with covers featuring shoes.
Cinder? I haven’t read Cinder but it was the first book that came to mind – I wanted to find something different. The other cover that sprung to mind was The Devil Wears Prada but it’s contemporary not fantasy so I didn’t want to use that one.
Lynn 😀
A charming novel with a lovely collection of covers – I think my favourite is the first cover on the second row 🙂
My favorite is Toto on the road. Although there are quite a few eye-catching ones here and many I’ve never seen. Great feature this week.
I also love that Toto cover – it’s lovely.
Lynn 😀
I am planning on listening to the audiobook version soon as I have never actually read the book 🙂
I look forward to seeing what you make of it. It’s been a long time since I read this one – perhaps I should pick it up for a reread.
Lynn 😀
