Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below. This week’s theme:
‘There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home: a cover with a house/abandoned house’
Of course, Halloween is fast approaching, the nights are drawing in and so what better book to go than with Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot.
There are some good covers here and different things that I like about all of them (oh and by the way – there are a heck of a lot more covers – but I decided to restrain myself). I actually really like the bottom row first cover, the simplicity and sensuality but I really don’t feel it quite suits the book somehow.
My winner is, because it really does fit for me, I love the psychedelic colour, the house with the roots growing down and the huge ass name – this really does scream King doesn’t it:

Which is your favourite??
If you fancy joining in with the FFO the themes for the next few weeks are below.
28th October – ‘And I, Jack, The Pumpkin King’! – a cover for Halloween
4th November – Nomad is an island – a cover with a wanderer
11th November -Falling off the rails – a cover with train tracks
18th November – The sun did not shine. It was too wet to play. So we sat in the house. All that cold, cold, wet day – a cover with stormy weather
25th November – As old as the hills?? – A cover with mountains
2nd December – Oranges and lemons say the bells of St Clements – A cover with fruit
9th December – Soul Meets Soul on Lovers’ Lips – a cover with lips
16 December – Give a Girl the Right Shoes and she can conquor the world – a cover with shoes
23rd December – The first noel… – a cover with angels
30th December – Ho ho ho! To the bottle I go… – a cover with drink
Ha, an amazing choice of book yet again this week Lynn!😀
At least we both had some different covers in the selections we chose to.😀
Yeah – there were a lot of covers to choose from so I thought I’d stop before it became huge!! I love the green cover – I don’t know why but I just can’t help it!
Lynn 😀
It is rather garish in colour but also surprisingly likeable and certainly makes you look at the cover! 🙂
Ha, well, King may well return with other books for future face-off themes to! 🙂
I like the first and the fourth in the first row. I can’t decide which one I like best, but I think I’ll go with the one you chose; that green… 🙂
That green is certainly very eye catching!
Lynn 😀
Ha, ha – you and Drew are going to HAVE to stop this telepathic communication… But you’re right – you both had a different selection of covers and so I’m with you on your choice – the bright green does it for me with the tangled roots twining around the font.
So funny this week – at least we went with a different favourite.
Lynn 😀
Yes! But you know what they say about great minds…
Indeed 😀
I actually prefer the one with the house. I think it hints better at the story.
I also like the house cover and it was going to be my choice but that green cover just stuck for some reason – it probably stunned me with it’s neon brightness!
Lynn 😀
Ahaha! Lol! Yea, maybe that’s what happened.
Ah, Salem’s Lot! My very first vampire book, and the one that gave me my… imprinting for the genre 🙂 (no sparkly vampires for me, thank you!)
My favorite covers are the last one in the second row and the first one in row nr. 1, but I must admit that your choice is indeed arresting!
Yep, no sparkly vampires in sight – certainly no vampires to fall in love with!! Just pure predators.
Lynn 😀
I haven’t been brave enough to read this…yet, but I totally agree with your winner 🙂
I thought you would have read this one for some reason – it was a while ago when I read it and I almost feel like a reread is in order.
Lynn 😀
I like the 3rd and 6th covers.
So many good covers for this story – I was even a little surprised at just how many choices there actually were.
Lynn 😀
Yeah, there’s a lot!
Wow, this is a popular choice this week! My favorite is the second in the second row. I like your choice too, but that sure is a very “loud” shade of green 🙂
Very loud – it’s practically deafening! I should have put a warner in the heading.
Lynn 😀
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a book with so many different cover treatments that isn’t considered a “classic.” Although I guess Salem’s Lot is a classic for this crowd 😉
There were a heck of a lot of covers for Salem’s Lot – I suppose it has a cult following really – I barely scratched the surface with the choice available. I did like the green one – I think it’s the font.
Lynn 😀
The green is cool! My favorite is the very first one because I think the font is creepy ^_^. I almost had a bit of a freakout because of your post title…. I thought I did the wrong week for a sec!
Haha – no, it’s just a quote from the book.
Lynn 😀
