“But, oh, Mina, I love him; I love him; I love him!”

FFO.jpg

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme being hosted by Books by Proxy .   This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple and can be found here.  Each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite (stop on over to Tenacious Reader to post your link so we can all check out each others choices).  Simples.   This week the theme is:

19th August: “The blood is life… and it shall be mine!”- a cover which features ‘blood’

My book this week is Bram Stoker’s Dracula – this is a classic novel and as such there are many, many, many covers!  I stopped at 9…  here they are with all their blood red imagery:

Drac1drac2drac3drac4Drac5drac6drac7drac8drac9

This week is a difficult one to choose.  I actually really like the 3rd cover – it is very ominous!  But my winner is the very simple:

drac4

Which is your favourite?

If you fancy joining in with FFO the themes for the next few weeks are below.  I’ve listed these as BooksbyProxy is currently a bit swamped and MIA as a result.  Don’t worry, ordinary service will be resumed soon😀

26th August: I sit here looking out at all I own – A cover featuring a throne.

2nd Sept: Hell is empty and all the devils are here – A cover with a demon or demonic creatures.

9th Sept: Pack up your troubles… and … leave – A cover with some form of luggage

16th Sept: A bouquet for you m’lady – A cover featuring a flower/flowers.

23rd Sept: Wee, sleekit, cow’rin, timorous beastie – A cover with a beast or beasts.

I agree with your preference – it’s simple but soooo effective! And a great choice of covers, too.

I really liked that one when I found it – it’s the simplicity that I like tbh.

Yes! It works really well, doesn’t it?

I love how graphic the third cover is. I think Dracula is such a great book to highlight for this theme!

    • @lynnsbooks

It fits in really well, its not the book I had in mind but then it just popped into my head and it seemed to fit so well that I couldn’t resist! The third cover is brilliant – I struggled between that one and my eventual choice.

I’m going with the fifth one down, the red background with Dracula written in black across the middle just stands out to me, though, most of the covers have merit and are good and it’s a classic book that everyone should read, great choice. 🙂

Thanks Drew – I like your pick – it’s very classy which is perfect for such a classic book.
      Lynn 😀

The first one is a good one as well: the red of the blood and the darkness both giving that hint of a face a very frightening appearance…

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, it’s really spooky now I’ve gone back and had a really good look! I don’t think I’d like that cover looking up at me when I want alone at night reading after everyone else has gone to bed and the house is all quite and dark!

Unexpected choice, but I like it! Tough to choose because of so many covers, and I suppose if I have to pick the one that stands out, it would be the last one 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

I admit that this wasn’t my first choice of book in fact I was thinking of Rivers of London because my cover is the one with the London plan that looks has thought it has a bloody image. Then I thought of Trueblood – with the books with the very pale faces and then this just followed on! That last one is almost psychedelic isn’t it – certainly has plenty of blood.

I agree with your choice, but then I am a sucker for a Vintage cover 🙂 I have the Collins Classics edition of this book – no blood or red on the cover, instead it is a castle silhouetted against an eerie moon and sky; I love it!

    • @lynnsbooks

I know the cover you mean and it is really good! I was trying to go for lots of covers with red – even if not exactly blood!
      Lynn 😀

I like your choice, but I rather prefer the fifth one. I think it’s very classy.

    • @lynnsbooks

It is a classy cover – for a classic novel – so perfect really!
      Lynn 😀

I lie the simple whit with blood drops one! Also kind of like the 6th one down for some reason

    • @lynnsbooks

It’s a good cover – I quite like all of them for different reasons. I love the simplicity of the white.
      Lynn 😀
