Every Tuesday over at the The Broke and Bookish we all get to look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) examples to demonstrate that particular topic. The topic this week is:
Ten Books You’d Buy Right This Second If Someone Handed You A Fully Loaded Gift Card
Yeah – we’d all love that wouldn’t we. This is pretty easy for me – namely because I have about 70 books on my wishlist at the current time! Some of these books would be preorders some are already released. Let’s go:
- The Thorn of Emberlain by Scott Lynch (to be fair I do have this on pre-order and not long to wait now!) Jean Tannen get back in my life.
- The Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan – I’ll probably buy this shortly but at the moment it’s on the wishlist (which is just as well because I’m a bit backed up with review books at the moment and trying to catch up).
- The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden – I want this book so badly!! Check out this little teaser : ‘A magical debut novel for readers of Naomi Novik’s Uprooted, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, and Neil Gaiman’s myth-rich fantasies, The Bear and the Nightingale spins an irresistible spell as it announces the arrival of a singular talent with a gorgeous voice.’ – and now you want it too no doubt!
- The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco -due out March 2017 – sounds very intriguing.
- The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry
- Den of Wolves by Juliet Marilier – I have to catch up with my reading of No.2 yet but even so I still badly want this book – it’s absolutely gorgeous and it must go on my shelves!
- The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Berry – I loved All The Truth That’s in Me that I want more from this author and this sounds like something I will love : ‘Buried deep within the archives of a convent in medieval France is an untold story of love, loss, and wonder and the two girls at the heart of it all.’
- Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt picked this up from a recent blogger’s Top Ten Tuesday so seems like a good place to highlight it.
- The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman
- Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson.
Prepare yourself for some gorgeous covers:

I’m so excited for The Thorn of Emberlain! I haven’t preordered it yet, but I should really do that. I can’t wait! Den of Wolves looks so pretty! I’ve only read the first one, Dreamer’s Pool though. I still have to buy the second one.
Great list!
I must say that I’m such a geek – I love preordering books and then forgetting I’ve done so – then I open my kindle and an excellent book just pops up – such a great feeling.
I loved Dreamer’s Pool, I’ve not read No.2 yet but I will do soon.
Lynn 😀
I really want to start that Marillier series and just grabbed the first one in hardcover fro Book Outlet for less that $4.00. I also read “The Suicide Motor Club” by Buehlman in June and loved it so much I know want to read everything else he has written, especially the one you featured. I have an ARC of The Bone Witch but since it releases next year, it’s gotten put on the back burner for now. Wonderful list!
I’ve read such great things about the Buehlman book – I have to have it. The Suicide Motor Club has also been picking up excellent reviews – so I’ve added that as well. The Marlier book is brilliant – well done bagging that copy. I have the second waiting to be read and can’t wait.
Lynn 😀
I’d love the Juliet Marillier series, too. She is such a good writer:). Thank you for sharing, Lynn.
So good – well, I’ve only read one, but it was excellent and I have No.2 waiting.
Lynn 😀
The words “a fully loaded gift card” can be very dangerous for a book lover! We would also need someone to keep us on the straight and narrow before we overindulged ourselves! 🙂
And I’ll join the club for the Marillier book – even though I still have the second one lined up and looking at me with reproachful eyes…
I have the second one lined up too. I would LOVE a fully loaded gift card – I have such a long wish list!
Lynn 😀
I definitely liked the teaser of The Bear and the Nightingale, and you’re right about so many lovely covers!
I know – I love the sound of The Bear and the Nightingale.
Lynn 😀
Hope you receive the books you want soon. Happy reading!!
Here’s a link to my TTT post for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2016/08/top-ten-tuesday-ten-books-id-buy-right.html
Me too! And I hope you are equally as lucky to receive all your books – although, even if we received all the books we wanted – we would still come up with more wouldn’t we!
Lynn 😀

I love your title for this one! 🙂 I hope you get all the books your heart desires!

I hope so too!
Lynn 😀
Awesome list, I want Walk on Earth a Stranger so much 🙂
It does look really good.
I think you’d really enjoy The Lesser Dead (for some reason I thought you had read it!). I also want to catch up with Walk on Earth a Stranger. 🙂
No, I’m not sure if I’ve read anything by this author to be hones. Did you read it and love it too – sorry if I missed your review??
I did (http://www.tenaciousreader.com/2014/12/30/the-lesser-dead-by-christopher-buehlman/). I also loved Suicide Motor Club, but have to admit my favorite of his books may be Between Two Fires. (Those are the only three I’ve read. One of these days I’ll get to the others)
Just read your review and now I want this even more. I’m just simply going to go and buy it right now…
Lynn 😀
The Bear and the Nightingale sounds amazing! I know those comparisons can be misleading, but ‘for readers of The Night Circus’ has me sold!
I’m sold too to be honest. I just want that book in my life!
Lynn 😀
The Bear and the Nightingale sounds soooo good! 🙂
I know – I’m so excited about that book that I literally can’t wait!
Lynn 😀
I really don’t need this temptation, Lynn! 🙂 So many good books…I really should be trying to finish what’s on my shelves now, but something tells me I’ll probably cave and check out the Bone Witch… 😉
It does sound rather awesome and I love the cover.
Lynn 😀
Great list! Walk on Earth a Stranger sounds so amazing.
Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian
It does – I can’t wait to pick up a copy of that one.
Lynn 😀
I love All the Truth That’s In Me! One of the most underappreciated
I love All the Truth That’s In Me! Definitely one of the most underappreciated gems out there. I’ll have to check out Berry’s new book, stat!
My thoughts exactly! I can’t wait for this one. All the Truth was amazing and I can’t believe that everyone isn’t shouting about it!
I like the sound of many of these and how gorgeous are all of those covers?! I hope you are able to get your hands on them all…eventually 😀
Haha – it would be a bit much if you were able to just pick them all up at once wouldn’t it – you’d be simply overwhelmed.
Lynn 😀
