You might be a king or a little street sweeper, but sooner or later you’ll dance with the reaper…

FFO.jpg

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme being hosted by Books by Proxy .   This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple and can be found here.  Each week, following a predetermined theme choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.  Simples.   This week the theme is:

Shrouded in black, in morals I do lack – A cover featuring a character wearing a hood or cowl.

This week’s book is The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.  I thought there were a lot of covers last week but this week was just silly – basically I stopped looking as it was getting ridiculous.  So, my covers are:

My favourite is the last cover – I love the autumn feel and the colours – plus the character is wearing a hood (so it’s appropriate!) and he’s carrying his musical instrument so really ties in with the story.  Lots of great covers to choose from them and some of them very dark and moody.

It’s a lovely cover, isn’t it? I believe (I may be wrong) that it is a Polish edition… I love it too, but I think the Dutch cover – the final one in your selection – just edges it for me. Once again, a triumphant contribution to the Friday Face-off meme, Lynn:)

I think I’ve seen a post by somebody else fairly recently with the Name of the Wind but tbh it was the first thing that came to mind (followed by Prince of Thorns) and I just loved some of the covers so wanted to spotlight them.

I like the one all the way to the right in the second row. Though I might be biased because I absolutely love the cover for Slow Regard of Silent Things from that same set. https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1405672932l/22050093.jpg

I love the cover for Slow Regard too so I can totally see where you’re coming from.

Wonderful covers, all of them, but the one I like most is the one on the right in the fourth row: that gnarled tree and the mist/clouds are nothing short of stunning…

Every time I look at these covers I find something else that I love!

What a bounty of wonderful covers! The one I’ve seen the most is the 3rd cover on the 2nd row and I think it is lovely. I also really like the 2nd cover on the 4th row, very atmospheric.

  5. Carmen

I love the 4th cover in the first row. Not as dramatic but very colorful.

Great choice and alot of covers! 😊

Ha, have to say I’m glad you didn’t choose Prince of Thorns, it was my pick and it was the book I thought off when I came up with the cowl idea – I was like, well I know who wears a cowl that nice young man little Jorgy Ancrath! 🙂

Yeah, my first thought was Prince of Thorns – and even King of Thorns to be honest. Then I thought of this one. I also had the Straight Razor Cure on my mind (but I haven’t read it yet) and the Painted Man – actually I thought somebody would have gone for the Brett book.
      Lynn 😀

Love the one for “De Naam van de Wind”. I know this book has been translated into a ridiculous number of languages, but I had no idea the huge variety of covers. Sigh, really wishing for some news on the future of this series… 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

I know – there doesn’t seem to be any news on No.3 – I know PR wants it to be perfect (and so do I) but I so wish there was some whispering about when!
      Lynn 😀

I’m partial to the US & UK editions, but seriously, there are at least 3 others in this selection that I think are gorgeous!

There are so many covers for this series and some really gorgeous ones.
      Lynn 😀
