Lady in red…

FFO.jpg

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme being hosted by Books by Proxy .   This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple and can be found here.  Each week, following a predetermined theme choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.  Simples.   This week the theme is:

Lady in Red

A cover which features a female character in red

This week my book is Fire by Kristin Cashore.  This was No.2 in the Graceling Realm series and was my favourite book.  Here is the cover:

For me, this week, there is simply no contest.  The woman, with the dramatic background and the swirling red dress – oh yes, that’s the one for me.  Everything about that cover is gorgeous.  The Font, the placement of the font, name and central character, the ominous background (with maybe a hint of light) and the female, poised, ready.  the undoubted winner for me:

Fire

Feel free to join in and, if you want to make suggestions for future covers – call over to Books by Proxy and leave a comment.

Oh yes – you’ve definitely nailed it with one, Lynn:). I generally prefer the more abstract covers – but the swirling orange/pink tends not to reflect the element of adventure and excitement in this series, but looks a bit too much like a straight romance… So I agree with your choice. Have a great week-end:) This is my offering…

Thanks – it is a good cover and my favourite book out of the three by this author.
      Lynn 😀

The one you chose looks gothic; like shot in the moors. I think it’s a good one but I liked the first one better.

    • @lynnsbooks

I think they’re both good covers. The second one is just a great portrayal of the main protagonist though.
      Lynn 😀

I totally approve of your choice: that cover is very *intense* (and not just because of the red hues…) – you can almost feel the wind’s strength…

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, you can – and I love the vibrancy of the dress – it practically has texture.
      Lynn 😀

I love this week’s topic, and I have agree with your choice. Such a great color contrast with those dark greens and that red dress.

    • @lynnsbooks

I love that cover and this is definitely my favourite of the series.
      Lynn 😀

Trouble ahead. The lady in red! Probably my favorite Dead song 😀 I like that cover best too!

Sadly I haven’t read the Graceling Realm series, even though I’ve heard great things about it. That gorgeous second cover would definitely tempt me to pick up this book whether I’d heard of it or not! Great choice this week 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Fire was my favourite book – and, in case you ever do fancy picking it up – even though all three come from the same world – they’re individual stories so can be read as standalones.
      Lynn 😀

Fire was my favourite book in the series too, although it was a close call after I read Bitterblue. Side note: I would really love to know if Kristin Cashore is working on any new projects!

Gonna have to echo everyone else and agree with your choice. It just makes Fire look so badass!

I would also love to know if KC is working on something else.
The cover for this one is great and I loved the main character.
      Lynn 😀
