Four and twenty blackbirds….

FFO.jpg

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme being hosted by Books by Proxy .   This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite books’ covers.  The rules are fairly simple and can be found here.  Each week, following a predetermined theme choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.  Simples.  This week as Proxy is temporarily away from the fray I’m going for a freebie theme:

‘A pie of blackbirds’

With blackbirds in mind I’ve gone for Blackbirds (Miriam Black #1) by Chuck Wendig.  This is a great series that I love and I’ve found 3 covers:

The first cover is the one I know and love – on the face of it, it’s a good deal simpler to look at than you first imagine, you really have to zoom in to appreciate the finer detail.  The middle cover is very effective in terms of a shock of colour but I’m not quite sure what’s really supposed to be going on with the illustration.  The final cover gives me the serious goosebumps – terrifying.

This week, absolutely no contest for me and I’ve made the image larger so you can really see what’s going on.

    I love the Blackbirds cover!

Ok, they may all be for Blackbirds but the one you picked is the one I always associate with the book, and has always been one of my favorite covers

    • @lynnsbooks

It’s so good isn’t it with loads of tiny detail. Plus such a great series.
      Lynn 😀

Lol love the theme. I agree with your pick. That cover is very eye catching

    • @lynnsbooks

It’s a great cover and the series is also so good.
      Lynn 😀

I actually love all three covers, it would be hard for me to pick:-)

    • @lynnsbooks

Haha – I find the third one really freaking scary!
      Lynn 😀

I agree with you on the first cover.

Great choice of theme, and I love the original Angry Robot cover for this book. The art style is just amazing, and when I first saw the cover it was just a quick glance; I didn’t realize until much later that there are all the shapes of birds making up much of the picture!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, I didn’t realise that either – and then when you look really closely there are objects as well, like a hand, for example and other things that are relevant to the story. A brilliant concept for a cover.

Yes – I think they are all very eye-catching, but I do like the first one best, the detail is fantastic – it reminds me of the Angry Robot Zoo City cover, which is also an awesome book:).

That first cover is brilliant! I think in the second cover, the illustration might be two blackbirds fighting? But because their heads are under the title it is very hard to make out.

    • @lynnsbooks

ah, yes, good point – I really couldn’t tell what was going on. I love the first cover though.
      Lynn 😀

I love the original Angry Robot cover art, too! Not that I’ve read this series…but the covers have always caught my eye in stores and at the library!

    • @lynnsbooks

Its a very dark series and not everyone’s cup of tea I suppose but I really love it. Chuck Wendig has a very creative way of cursing!
      Lynn 😀
