‘Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme being hosted by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite books covers. The rules are fairly simple and can be found here. Each week, following a predetermined theme choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Simples. This week the theme is:
08th April 2016 | Peace is Poor Reading
A cover which features War
This week I’m going for the first book in the Shadow Campaigns series by Django Wexler: The Thousand Names
UK vs US
I think both of these covers are excellent and certainly the UK version depicts a full battle scene in the background. That being said my favourite this week is the US version. I love the colours and the layout and there’s just something about the central figure striding forwards with his crossed swords. This week’s winner:

Join us next week for:
15th April 2016 | Metropolis
A cover which features a city
I really like the colours used in the US cover too.
The colours give it a bit more drama I think.
Lynn 😀
It’s been sitting on my shelf a while now. I’ve been pretty eager for a read. Look forward to your thoughts!
I enjoyed it and have had No.2 for a while which I need to get round to. My review is here: https://lynns-books.com/2014/07/16/the-thousand-names-by-django-wexler-no1-of-the-shadow-campaign/
I like the US version, too. And I really liked the book!
It was great – I actually won a copy of No.2 but haven’t picked it up yet! Need to move it up the pile! Have you read the rest?
Lynn 😀
I only saw the US cover so far, and I must say that the UK cover is very interesting, with that masked (?) in the foreground…
I do like both covers and I think the UK cover has such a lot going on in the background when you take a look but I love the pose of the character on the US cover and the colours are so eye catching.
Lynn 😀
You and I are totally on the same wavelength! If I had to pick a book for this topic, I probably would have chosen the Shadow Campaigns as well. Not to mention the US and UK covers for this series couldn’t be more different, so they are great to compare. I think I may have to give the edge to the US cover for The Thousand Names too, since that pose is just so dramatic!
Yes yes – it’s the pose! I don’t know why but it’s just so good.
Lynn 😀
I with you on this one. The UK is very well done, but there is something about the crossed swords over-looking that desert valley city…
Yes, again, the pose! So effective. I like the UK one but the colours are not as eye catching.
Lynn 😀
Definitely the US cover!
It’s a lovely cover! I really do like it.
Lynn 😀
I think they’re both gorgeous! The US cover has a gorgeous blend of colours and that figure looks like he means business…. but still… can’t resist that UK cover so it gets my vote this week! I LOVE the stance of that figure – it just makes me want to go charging into the battlefield 😛
I agree with you on the US cover. Though figure’s back is turned, those crossed swords makes me anticipate what he’s going to do more than the figure with the gun on the UK cover.
He definitely has an attitude doesn’t he and I think he looks like he’s just going to be Trouble!
Lynn 😀
Oh, this is a fun meme I don’t know about! I might join in next week 🙂
I love the image on the UK cover, but prefer the colours on the US one. Personally, I don’t like seeing the back of the person; it feels like I’m being left behind and missing all the action.
You should totally join in – easy to schedule in because you know what topics are coming up and you like covers too!
Lynn 😀
