Every Tuesday over at the The Broke and Bookish we all get to look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) examples to demonstrate that particular topic. The topic this week is:
’10 Of My Most Recent 5 Star Reads’
This is a lovely topic isn’t it and easy to choose! I just slipped on over to Goodreads and checked out my last 10 five star books which were as follows (book covers first with links to each post below:
- City of Blades by R J Bennett
- Murder by Sarah Pinborough
- Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
- The Flux by Ferrett Steinmetz
- The Girl with Ghost Eyes by M H Boroson
- The Silver Tide by Jen Williams
- Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller
- Monstrous Little Voices by Jonathan Barnes, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Emma Newman, Kate Heartfield, Foz Meadows
- The Immortals by Jordanna Max Brodsky
- Jane Steele by Lindsay Faye
Today is going to absolutely hammer my wishlist 😉
I know *groans*
I have a Kindle copy of City of Stairs for review, and haven’t read it! I got it last year but never really picked it up. I want to so badly now though, seeing it on this list. 🙂
I do love R J Bennett so perhaps I’m a bit biased but I thought City of Stairs was brilliant!
Lynn 😀
I am really looking forward to reading Monstrous Little Voices and Jane Steele 😀
I can’t wait to see what you think of them.
Lynn 😀
I see Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows every time I’m in the local book shop and haven’t picked it up yet. I think I’ll have to and stick it on my reading list.
Well, I loved it, some of my blogger pals weren’t as keen but then it seems to be getting a lot of love on lists this week!
Lynn 😀
I’ll have a read of your review before making a final decision on it I think. I’ll keep you updated 🙂
I really enjoyed it. I think it has more of a YA feel than some of my other books and there is also a bit of a romantic edge to part of the story. Probably not as dark as some of my other reads but I enjoyed the change.
Lynn 😀
Yeah I know exactly what you mean; I usually read books that deal with darker themes. I don’t mind if a story has a romantic edge, it usually raises the stakes a little – I’m thinking of the Kylar/Azoth + Vi + Dollgirl love triangle in the Night Angel Trilogy).
I sometimes really like the YA genre, Joe Abercrombie’s transition has been great. To be fair, I will give almost anything a go!
Ive only read the first of the Abercrombie venture into YA which was really good – I need to catch up with the series.
Lynn 😀
Well there is plenty for you to seek your teeth into! I am sometimes envious of those who are yet to read really good books. I wish I could go back and re-read some…
It’s also exciting when reading other blogger’s reviews of books that you are yet to read as you know that you are going to be in for a great ride!
I know! It’s a crazy feeling but when I see somebody starting to read a book I enjoyed it makes me want to read it again too! Still, who has the time for that!!
Ah that’s too true! My ‘To read’ list is just getting longer and longer. I wish I had the money to just read full time. That would be a great job!
Haha – that would be a job in publishing?? You could find the next top selling author!
Lynn 😀
Haha now wouldn’t that be something!
Danny 🙂
Ok, you have so many books on here I WANT to read! Jane Steele, The Flux, Six of Crows…but I completely agree with The Girl with Ghost Eyes and City of Blades! Really fantastic list:-)
It’s impossible to find the time to read all of them. The Girl with Ghost Eyes was great though wasn’t it!
lynn 😀
Oooh, The Immortals is on my list. And is The Flux the sequel to Flex? Because Flex is on mine! My TTT
Flux is the sequel and it’s brilliant – you need to read it (especially if Flex is already on your list!) Plus I think book No.3 is out fairly soon.
I hardly ever finish a series, lol, but I’ll definitely look into getting book 2.
I know – I have loads of unfinished series – why??
Because the end of a series can be a disappointment! I mean, how often do you finish a series and not have at least 2 things you kind of grumble over? By not finishing, everyone has their perfect ending, even if you arent sure what it is.
Your list rocks. I want to read The Flux, The Immortals, Jane Steele and Murder. In fact, I think I own three of them already. Too many books not enough time! However, I love Tammy’s recommendations and seeing she wants to read The Girl with the Ghost Eyes, maybe I should add it to the TBR as well!
The Girl with Ghost Eyes was one of those books that I had no particular preconceived ideas about or expectations and then just took me by surprise. I love Pffall the books on here so if you already own some of them then you need to read – of course I’m saying that and I have a full book case of unread books too – and that doesn’t include all the books that are ‘out of sight out of mind’ on my kindle! Pfftt!
Lynn 😀
I’ve been hearing so much about Jane Steele! I think I’ll have to check it out.
I absolutely loved it. I hope you give it a short.
Lynn 😀
Ooh I haven’t read any of these yet. I am especially intrigued by Flux!
OMG – Flux was just so good, so original, so out there. I can’t really do it enough justice to be honest. I loved it. Flex is the first in series and it’s also brilliant.
Lynn 😀
You have many books that I want to read on your list, and the ones that I didn’t know about on here sound so good. Great list.
Thanks. I hope you get to check some of them out. I was wondering if you might enjoy Jane Steele?
I had to look that up. I see that it’s a Jane Eyre retelling. I love Jane Eyre. That is one of my favorite books. I hadn’t read too many retellings for it, though. The last one I tried was Jenna Starborn some years back. I’ve added it to my TBR pile because it sounds intriguing.
Yeah, I remembered, and I was wondering if you were going to pick a copy up or not.
Lynn 😀
I hadn’t heard of it at all. Thanks for letting me know. I have it and another book by the author on my list now.
Yeah, I’m going to check out her earlier work on the strength of this one. Quite like a look of her earlier series (can’t remember the name now off the top of my head) but it looks good.
Lynn 😀
Oooo there are lots of pretty covers here! I’ve gotta find time to check out these books 😀 Nice list!
Thanks 😀
Jane Eyre is my favorite book of all time. I’m interested in this retelling!
It’s really good although it’s not really a retelling. The main protagonist has a life that runs in parallels with a lot of the events from jane’s life but she’s a different kettle of fish altogether.
Lynn 😀
Jane Steele…I’m so intrigued. That line on the cover already makes me like the protagonist.
It’s so good. I loved it and can’t recommend it enough! 😀
I haven’t read any of these books, though I do have Six of Crows, but all of the covers look super cool! I’m glad you enjoyed them!
Yeah, they look nice together just by happy chance! Hope you enjoy Six of Crows when you get a chance to pick up.
Lynn 😀
The Immortals really was excellent. And I am still planning on giving The Girl with Ghost Eyes a try!
did you see the cover for No.2?? It’s great. I hope you do read The Girl with Ghost Eyes. Would love to know what you think.
Lynn 😀
Six of Crows <3. The books of Jen Williams interest me but I have yet to pick them up.
They’re so good. The characters are brilliant and you just can’t help loving them!
Lynn 😀
So many books I have to read! Can’t wait to continue with the Copper Cat and I look forward to my next Sarah Pinborough novel! Plus a few more too add to the list!!!
So many books, so little time….
I really need to get to City of Stairs. It’s been lurking on my Kindle Carousel for an obscene amount of time. I haven’t read any of the other authors you’ve mentioned, but recently I’ve been indulging in older books. It’s been a nice break for me!
~Litha Nelle
Older books sound good – I’ll have to stop over and see what you’ve been reading. I’m intrigued now!
Lynn 😀
