‘ere be dragons’

The Friday Face Off (FFO#2)

‘Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme being hosted by Books by Proxy .   The rules are fairly simple and can be found here.  Each week, following a predetermined theme choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.  Simples.  This week the theme is:

‘A cover which features dragons’:

UK    :    US

The Copper Promise is the first in this fantastic series written by Jen Williams.  I actually like both covers and particularly the way the colours share a similar colour theme.  That being said I adore the UK covers for this series.  They have a wonderful olde worlde feel which is really striking.  Plus the three of them together look amazing.

My winner this week is the UK cover.

There’s not even a dragon on the US version!? I get drastically different feels for the story from the covers. I mean, each is completely different art style, and one is a dragon, while the other is a girl and guy.

I do like both covers to be honest – and especially the way they’ve made the colour schemes correspond – I checked out No.2 and they’ve also followed that colour scheme. I would pick up either of these but I like the originals as they have a ‘mediaeval’ feel which I really like. Plus – dragons!

They do say great minds think a like, and before I read your thoughts I was thinking how wonderful the ‘olde worlde feel’ of the UK cover was 🙂

They are three very lovely covers and look gorgeous together.

No dragon? No party! 😀 😀

Haha – almost sounds like a contradiction in terms! 😀 😀

I prefer the UK version as well.

The UK cover is gorgeous!!! I love it so much. They’re done in such a lovely illustrative style. The US cover doesn’t really do much for me as I almost dislike covers which distract from my own imagined versions of characters! That UK cover though – classy!

They are very classy covers. I like the US cover although it is so different. It makes me wonder if we really are so different in our choices – I would certainly pick up the UK book over the US version if faced with the choice.

I can’t choose! I own the UK version so I’m kind of partial to it, but then I love the photo realistic style of the Angry Robot version as well (I’m guessing that is by Gene Mollica, I love his stuff and his covers have a very distinct look!)

    • @lynnsbooks

I think I’m partial to the UK version for the same reason but I do like both. I would definitely pick the US version up to read if I’d seen it first but if I had the choice it would be UK for me on this one. I love the mediaeval feel to the covers.
