Tags: The Broke and the Bookish, Top 10 Theme Tunes to books, Top Ten Tuesday
Every Tuesday over at the The Broke and Bookish we all get to look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) examples to demonstrate that particular topic. The topic this week is all about songs. Top 10 songs that should be made into books. Top 10 books that should be made into songs, themes songs for a book, etc. I’m going with theme songs that could suit a particular book.
‘Theme songs for books’
- The Red Queen’s war trilogy by Mark Lawrence – Killer Queen by Queen
- The Martian by Andy Weir- Life on Mars by David Bowie
- Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire – (because – Tybalt) The Lovecats by The Cure
- Stardust by Neil Gaiman – Lucky Star by Madonna
- Flex by Ferrett Steinmetz – Relight my Fire by Take That
- Dracula by Bram Stoker – Bela Lugosi’s Dead by Bauhaus
- Angelfall by Susan EE – There must by an Angel by The Eurythmics
- I am Legend by Richard Matheson – The Freaks Come out at Night by Whodini
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley – Staying Alive by the BeeGees
- The Shining by Stephen King – Hotel California by the Eagles
“You and me babe, how ’bout it?”
(the title and above quote are taken from Romeo and Juliet by Dire Strait – guess the book!)

Clever song choices for each interesting books! π
Thanks. I had fun with these titles.

It seems so! π
You’ve got some classic songs and books on this list – I love Killer Queen by Queen and Life on Mars by David Bowie π
I could have chosen a few songs by Bowie but decided to be reasonable!

I’m practically singing as I’m reading your post! Ha ha Stayin’ Alive for Frankenstein!!
I was having a giggle with some of these – it was fun! I probably could have used Bowie for a lot more books – Scary Monsters and Supercreeps, Queen Bitch, The Laughing Gnome!

Hotel California is perfect for The Shining. I also like what you picked for The Martian. Is it possible to see a BeeGee’s song title and not break into singing it? Just saying!
No – it isn’t – they’re songs that stick in your head!

LOL Great choices π
Thanks π I had fun with this one.

Hotel California for The Shining is great π
Haha – thanks! π
This is a great idea! I would have trouble with this week’s topic. Matching books with songs is easier than picking songs that I would like to be books, but still, most of my matches would probably be to instrumental tunes from soundtracks. Those epic scores, man!!!
I know – looking at some of the other posts this week I could have also really struggled – I think I made this pretty easy on myself! I could have practically down a full post just with David Bowie!

Dire Straits on the post title! Love it.
I love that song. Love it. But what the hell is a streetsuss serenade?
