This week over at the Broke and the Bookish the Top Ten Tuesday topic for discussion is:
‘Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far In 2015
This should be an interesting week checking out everyone’s ‘best of so far! I must admit it wasn’t as easy to choose as I hoped as I’ve read such a lot of good books so far this year but these are my choices so far listed in the order in which I read them:
- The Just City by Jo Walton – thought provoking
- The Iron Ghost by Jen Williams – great characters and action
- Flex by Ferrett Steinmetz – so unique and compelling
- The Mechanical by Ian Tregillis – excellent and gripping story
- Dreamer’s Pool by Juliet Marillier – beautifully written and fairytale(esque)
- Lives of Tao by Wesley Chu, The Deaths of Tao by Wesley Chu, The Rebirths of Tao by Wesley Chu (bit of a cheat here but I read all three in fairly short order – bit like reading Lord of the Rings all in one go – so, not really a cheat at all when you think about it!) – really original, full of action
- When We Were Animals by Joshua Gaylord – strange and yet unputdownable
- Traitor’s Blade by Sebastien de Castell – good action, good characters, plenty of humour
- The Liar’s Key by Mark Lawrence – fantastic story arc, amazing ending, great writing
- The Tower Lord by Anthony Ryan – action packed and wonderful characters
And – because I’ve already got my 10 – an honorary mention to:
Death House by Sarah Pinborough – unique, beautiful writing, emotional
I loved Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier so I will have to pick up Dreamer’s Pool since it made your list. Great list 🙂
Daughter of the Forest I’ve had for ages on my kindle and I’m really looking forward to reading it – eventually! Dreamer’s Pool was so good – I hope you like it.
Lynn 😀
I haven’t heard of any of these. I’ll have to read some reviews and see what I’d like to try. That’s what I like about TTT, I find new things to read.
Here’s my TTT. http://eviloverlordthoughts.com/top-ten-of-2015/
Yeah – TTT – perhaps it should be called ‘Explode my TBR Tuesday’ instead!
Lynn 😀
I have got to get caught up with the Tao books. Loved the first one.
My Best so far would be:
Slow Regard of Silent Things (Patrick Rothfuss)
The Martian Chronicles (Ray Bradbury)
Trigger Warning (Neil Gaiman)
Galactic North (Alastair Reynolds)
The Uplift War (David Brin)
The Tao books were so good. I really enjoyed reading them in quick succession in fact I think that’s going to be one of my new things – waiting till a series finishes that everyone loves and then picking it up and reading them all fairly close together.
Slow Regard was a lovely book. I haven’t read the Martian Chronicles – will have to go and take a look. I did recently buy Bradbury’s Dandelion Wine which I’m really looking forward to and will be my third book of his.
I haven’t read Trigger Warning but I’ve heard lots of good things about it. Plus, Neil Gaiman.
Are you planning on reading Armada – I’ve just picked it up now – really keen to see how it stands up to Ready Player One.
Lynn 😀
Some excellent books on that list, for sure!
I’ve been lucky with my books so far this year – I hope it continues.
Lynn 😀
Awesome list Lynn! When We Were Animals almost made my list. And The Mechanical and Flex are two I just haven’t had time to read, but maybe I can get to them in the second half of the year.
It’s so difficult to keep up with all these books isn’t it! When We were Animals was so unexpected. I really enjoyed it.
Lynn 😀
Traitor’s Blade & The Liar’s Key were both great reads. I picked up the first in Anthony Ryan’s series a little while back, so time to catch up soon.
I’ve really enjoyed the whole series by Anthony Ryan – and it was a bit of a surprise because I resisted picking it up for ages for some strange reason – just stubbornness!
Lynn 😀
All excellent books and I’m so excited to see Dreamer’s Pool. It deserves to be on all the lists 🙂 Hopefully I can get to Flex and When We Were Animals later this year.
I heard great things about the Tao series, and it sounds so good! I don’t own any of the books, but now that the series is complete, I may go out and get them.
Great picks! When We Were Animals, The Mechanical and The Just City all made my list 🙂
Cool! They were such good books weren’t they – and, actually a bit unexpected for those particular three books you mention because I really didn’t have a clue what they were about when I picked them up. I love it when that happens.
Lynn 😀
Ooooh Dreamer’s Pool, what an ace pick. Whenever I think about Tower of Thorns coming out this Fall I feel positively giddy with excitement! 🙂
I can’t wait for Tower of Thorns. I loved Dreamer’s Pool and in fact bought Daughter of the Forest immediately I finished – I just need to find time to pick it up!
Lynn 😀
