This week at The Broke and the Bookish the topic for Top Ten Tuesday is:
Top Ten Books On My Summer TBR list
It’s difficult for me to pin down a top 10 for this because my ‘next’ reads are always a bit of a movable feast so I’m just going to pick the first 10 books that immediately spring to mind that I’m really looking forward to and that I already own or have pre-ordered:
- Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
- Tower Lord by Anthony Ryan
- Sworn in Steel by Douglas Hulick
- Fool’s Assassin by Robin Hobb
- Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer
- The Copper Promise by Jen Williams
- Corroded by Karina Cooper
- Bloodshot by Cherie Priest
- Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury
- Shadow of the Wolf by Tim Hall
That’s it for me – what lucky book will get promoted to the top of your TBR?

I read Dandelion Wine many years ago and I remember how amazed I was by this writing. Beautiful.
Here’s my Summer TBR list!
I’m really looking forward to this – I really enjoyed Something Wicked this Way Comes by this author. He has a lovely writing style.
Lynn 😀
I, too, read Dandelion Wine years ago, but it is one of those books that stays with you. I liked Half a King, but I’m still undecided about what I think of Fool’s Assassin (haven’t reviewed it yet). I adored all of the others dealing with Fitz and the Fool, but this one left me in a quandary. I’m dying to know what someone else thinks about it!
Well, I was sort of delaying reading it because I wondered if I needed to catch up with all the other books first (I really hope not!). Glad you liked Half a King – can’t wait to read that and in fact Joe Abercrombie is coming to my library in a couple of weeks (just before the general release) for a book signing – I can’t wait. I enjoyed Something Wicked by Bradbury so want to read more of his works.
Lynn 😀
Do you have a copy of Priest’s book already? I really liked her clockwork century books.
I’ve only read the first – Boneshaker – but really liked it. The Priest book I’ve got here is quite an old one – I think she has a few due out? A steampunk and a gothic/horror – but alas, this is not one of those books – boo 🙂
Lynn 😀
Oo… I have Annihilation on my shelf and it looks so good. The author is actually giving out copies of the second book on goodreads right now, if you don’t have it already! 😛
Great list! 🙂
I will have to check that out – I’m looking forward to reading that one and have heard really good things about it.
Lynn 😀
Wow, it’s been a long time since I read Dandelion Wine – but Bradbury’sn great! That is a really neat cover for Annihilation.
Yes, I love that cover too. Well, everyone seems to love Dandelion Wine so I can’t wait to get to that now.
Lynn 😀
I definitely want to pick up The Copper Promise. As for what I’ll read next zowwie. Have you ever thought that when you get overwhelmed by too many options it makes it harder to pick? The worst time for me is two minutes after I finish a book and try to decide what I want or feel or should read next. It’s the worst. I’m probably going to read A BARRICADE IN HELL or PRINCE OF FOOLS next. But eh it depends on how I’m feeling in 70 pages.
I’ve got The Copper Promise on my kindle (which I’m glad about as it’s fairly chunky – wrist strain!). Really looking forward to that one and heard some good things. I know what you mean about becoming overwhelmed. I have some ridiculous obsession with just collecting more and more books. It’s ridiculous really – last year I read about a hundred books and I know for a fact I’m not going to read any quicker or more than that! And, yet, I probably have at least that many books waiting right now to be read. I’m sick in the head or something! My worst time to choose a book is when the one I’ve just read was totally awesome and I have that horrible feeling that nothing will ever be quite that good again – and then it makes me wonder why I didn’t savour the book a little more slowly! Pah!
I do recommend Prince of Fools – it had a proper ‘old’ style fantasy feel which I really enjoyed. Must go and look at Barricade in Hell (or maybe I should leave it alone!!!)
Lynn 😀
I think Dandelion Wine is probably my favourite Bradbury I hope you will enjoy it too.
Well, it seems to be conclusive that everyone loves Dandelion Wine so I must admit I’m really looking forward to it.
Lynn 😀
Wow, great list! I just finished Half A King, I think you’ll like that one…and maybe we can read Tower Lord together 😀
I’m so looking forward to Half a King – I can’t believe I haven’t read Abercrombie. And Tower Lord – I really enjoyed Blood Song – but, I’ve got this one preordered for Kindle (couldn’t cope with another huge ass book that I can’t keep the pages open for!) So, I imagine everyone will have already read this by the time it’s released!! Otherwise, if your reading schedule is all booked up and you’re not reading for a couple of weeks we should read it together! 😀
Lynn
I like the Robin Hobb and Cherie Priest series–and I’m going to have to look up a few of these books with interesting covers.
I’ve only read the first of the steampunk series by Cherie Priest so I’m looking forward to this one. The cover is very intriguing!
Lynn 😀
Totally upvoting the fact that TBR lists are the most malleable thing ever. Half a King totally moved up my list after I binged 4 seasons of GoT in the past 2 weeks. Maaaaannnnnnn. I hope you get a chance to enjoy them all though!
Cheers,
joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts
I’m going to have a good time trying.
Lynn 😀
I’m really interested in snagging Half a King when it comes out.
Dandelion Wine was a delight.
I’m really looking forward to Dandelion Wine – EVERYBODY seems to have loved it! It’s really quite an exciting reading prospect when so many people who you know and share a taste in books with love something this much!
Lynn 😀
