Top Ten Bookish Things (That Aren’t Books) That I’d Like To Own
As my reading tends to lie predominantly in SFF I’ve decided to find 10 fantasy reading ‘things’ to wish for on today’s list:
- A hobbit hole, all warm and cosy, with lots of pantries and nice quiet spots for reading.
- One of those remote controls that means I can turn down the volume of life going on around me and focus on my current read.
- A time machine so that I can go forwards – and not have to wait for the next in the series and backwards to gain time and catch up on my TBR.
- Magical lights that illuminate as soon as I pick up my book and light up just enough to be easy to read but not too much to be glaring – you want the ambience, right?
- Books that have REALLY creative covers – I’m thinking of that book of Monsters from Harry Potter.
- My own portal that opens up the book worlds and allows me to enter (not all the time of course, brrrr).
- My own personal Brownie – to keep my books in some sort of order, help me with remembering plots and places, come in useful as some sort of dictionary, thesaurus, almanac and general know it all.
- Alien reading skills – the sort where you flip from cover to cover and you’ve completely read the book – imagine! – extreme speed reading!
- Photographic memory – because I’m so bad at remembering names and places.
- Some sort of bodyguard/slayer (okay, that’s probably a bit over the top) to stop all the pesky people on public transport who will insist on saying such things as ‘oh, you’re reading a book?’ – No, I’m just pretending. ‘Is it good?’, let me read it and I’ll let you know, ‘What sort of book is it?’, fantasy ‘Ohhh, I bet it’s that 50 Shades…’ Shut up and go away – I’m READING!!!! Or you know the bodyguard/slayer could just accompany me and scowl at people and look generally menacing.

When you get your magical lights can you let me know where to sign up for them?!
They would be pretty awesome wouldn’t they. To be honest I think I got the idea from a book *scratches head* – well, Stolen Songbird, which is about a young girl who is abducted by trolls and taken to their underground city. Some of the trolls have magic but obviously she doesn’t and can’t see in the dark so the Prince gives her an object that floats after her and can be lit on command!
I like the idea of floating globes – somebody needs to get all over that!

A great creative take on this weeks theme! I’d imagine the closest you might get to Alien reading skills might be to use Spritz — 1k WPM no problem!

I’m torn between alien reading skills and a time machine! Erring on the side of the time machine – you would never have to wait for the next in series again! I suppose it might have other uses too…

LOL! I love the idea of a body guard to keep your reading time sacred. Very funny. I think I would want a steampunk dragon for transport to and from the library. 🙂

Ohhh, I want a personal brownie! One who will keep my bookshelves dusted, and even more importantly, have the answer whenever I say, “what was the name of that book where the girl had a dream about seven princesses turned into monsters…?” and so on.
Brownies are great aren’t they – I think I’ll leave some honey on my windowsill and see if I attract one! Probably just end up with a dish of flies.

It would be so cool! I’m pretty dinky too – that’s probably why we like the idea – I don’t suppose we’d be so keen if we were statuesque.

this!!! i need this!
A time machine would be good. Plus, you’d never be late for work/appointments/birthdays. You would be chock full with spoilers because you’d be ahead of everyone else. Somebody hurry up and invent one of these!!!
