Friday Face Off: Dollface by Lindy Ryan

FFO

Today I’m returning to the  Friday Face Off, originally created by Books by Proxy).  I’ve missed these for the past few months and so would like to get back to comparing covers (and hopefully I will be updating this page with a new banner.  This is an opportunity to look at a book of your choice and shine the spotlight on the covers.  Of course this only works for those books that have alternative covers (although sometimes I use this to look at a series of books to choose a favourite). So, if you have a book that has alternative covers, highlight them and choose your favourite.  If you’re taking part it would be great if you leave a comment/link so I can take a look at what you’ve chosen.

This week I’ve chosen a book that I can’t wait to pick up Dollface by Lindy Ryan, an author I’m very much enjoying at the moment. This book has only two covers but wow – they are so different. Take a look:

My favourite:

Don’t get me wrong – I love the dramatically pink cover and the little trail of blood running from the top of the book. But, come on. This blue cover is so retro. I love the font and the colour – plus the descriptions says ‘Barbie meets Scream’ so it also appears totally fitting. Cannot wait.

Which is your favourite this week?

The blue cover is perfect and it’s my favorite too😁

It definitely portrays the ‘Barbie meets Scream’ descriptor!

Wow, what a contrast! For me, I’d go with the pink — it feels like it leaves the contents a bit mysterious but still intriguing. This really just comes down to taste, but for me, the blue cover is too blatantly disturbing. If I came across both on a bookstore shelf and knew nothing about them, I’d pick up the pink to learn more, but I wouldn’t touch the blue one!!

Yes, I understand completely, possibly why I like the blue cover so much in fact, it’s so unsubtle!

I agree with you with this one! The colour choice is on point. And there’s something far more haunting with it too.

I like the colour – it’s a kind of sweet blue sky colour isn’t it, rather than go for a more sombre or gruesome tone.

In terms of what appeals to me I’d have to go with the first cover but I totally agree that the second feels more fitting. It actually makes me a little uncomfortable looking at it which feels spot on for this title really.

Haha, yes, I believe this book may be a little unsettling from what I’ve heard so that second cover definitely fits the bill.

Agree with your choice, but I do also like the pink cover as well.

Yeah, I also like the pink cover too, and it’s the one I’m most familiar with which tends to make me lean in that direction, but the blue seems spot on for the story, it seems to be a cover where you know exactly what you’re letting yourself into doesn’t it.

I have a fear of dolls so the pink cover is infinitely easier for me to look at, lol!

Haha – that blue cover definitely won’t be for you – tbf I’m not overly fond of dolls, puppets or clowns!
