Top Ten Tuesday: A Few Classic Quotes

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme where every Tuesday we look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) bookish examples to demonstrate that particular topic.  Top Ten Tuesday (created and hosted by  The Broke and Bookish) is now being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and future week’s topics can be found here.  This week’s prompt is:

Quotes from Books you Love

I decided to use classic books – some of the ones I really have loved over the years and the quotes are well known, so see how many of these you can guess.

‘Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again. It seemed to me I stood by the iron gate leading to the drive, and for a while I could not enter, for the way was barred to me.’

‘You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!’

‘May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out’

‘Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.’

‘It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.’

Tomorrow I’ll think of some way to get him back. After all, tomorrow is another day.

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

My father’s family name being Pirrip, and my Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip

‘Curiouser and curiouser’

‘The most wonderful thing about Tiggers is, I’m the only one.’

How could I resist Winnie – in fact I used to have a dog called Winnie now I think about it and she was lovely!

That Galadriel quote is one of my favourites!

It’s such a good quote – although it does have some competition in that particular book!

Ive only read one of these so far but managed to get all but two of them right. Christmas Carol was a total guess made on the very end of the quote though,  the food references kept throwing me but the gravy grave thing felt vaguely familiar. Wuthering Heights I may not have gotten without the movie. I am annoyed at myself for not knowing the Lord Of The Rings one though.

The Galadriel quote I always picture with Cate Blanchett playing the role and saying the words – it’s stuck in my head now.
