Today I’m returning to the Friday Face Off, originally created by Books by Proxy). I’ve missed these for the past few months and so would like to get back to comparing covers (and hopefully I will be updating this page with a new banner. This is an opportunity to look at a book of your choice and shine the spotlight on the covers. Of course this only works for those books that have alternative covers (although sometimes I use this to look at a series of books to choose a favourite). So, if you have a book that has alternative covers, highlight them and choose your favourite. If you’re taking part it would be great if you leave a link so I can take a look at what you’ve chosen. This week I’ve chosen a book that I’m very much looking forward to: What Stalks the Deep by T Kingfisher (the third in the Sworn Soldier series). Here are the two covers:
My favourite this week:
Which is your favourite?
Join me next week in highlighting one of your reads with different covers

Like you I like the one with the deer skull.
I like both of them but I agree with you, we share the same favourite!
Yes, I do like those original style covers very much too.
Lynn 😀
Ooh, this one is difficult! I think I’m actually going to go for the other cover, its macabre vibes are speaking to me for some reason!
Yes, those style of covers have been very macabre – and you can’t tear your eyes away from them.
Lynn 😀
I have a hard time picking this week. Both are of very different styles and strong in their own individual ways. Going to go with a tie!
It’s a difficult choice for sure – especially as the first cover is in the style with which I’m familiar. A tie is good sometimes.
Lynn 😀
I’m with you, the cover with the antlers is the more striking one. I actually did this for the first time since, probably, An American Marriage. See my face off here https://jhohadli.com/2025/09/12/time-for-another-reading-check-in-120925/
It was close with these two covers but I do love that cover with the antlers.
Lynn 😀
I prefer the same cover as you this week. I find the other a bit too macabre for me (and tbh that’s kind of why I haven’t gotten to the series yet 🙈). The blue one still gives off those vibes but in a less in your face way and I love all the little details.
