As with previous years at the start of each year I take a look back over the past twelve months and choose my top ten books. This past year I’ve read over 100 books (I think 114 in total) so choosing ten was not easy. I’ve read some amazing books this year and tried to shine a light on my favourites, particularly during My Countdown to 2025 posts. There’s a great variety here, twisted mystery, fantastic fantasy, scary goosebump raisers, tricksy fae, history, romance, beautiful writing and great adventures. So, here goes, and before I change my mind for the sixth time, here are ten amazing books:
- The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins
- The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett
- The Silverblood Promise by James Logan
- We Used To Live Here by Marcus Kliewer
- The Moonlight Market by Joanne Harris
- The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst
- A Little Trickerie by Rosanna Pike
- Gorse by Sam K Horton
- The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso
- The Scholar and the Last Faerie Door by HG Parry

Excellent list! We share five books and only because I haven’t read the other five. The Heiress is my very favorite of the year😁
I know – I loved that book.
Lynn 😀
We share a few Best of books and a few of your picks almoooooost made my list 😁 I really want to check out Gorse, but it’s not available in the US yet!!
Yes, I saw your list already. Gorse was so good, I never expected it to be so deviously dark.
Lynn 😀
Ooo, that is definitely encouraging! I may have to see if I can snag a UK copy so I can finally check it out.
Haha, are you in danger of changing your top 10? Lucky you, having so many good reads in 2024 <3. Thanks for the recs, and wish you a very happy new year 2025!
Yes, I had some really good reads and couldn’t decide, I eventually had to press ‘post’ as quick as possible otherwise I could have gone on and on.
Happy New Year too.
Lynn 😀
Another Top 10 List where the entire list is still on my TBR Stack!
Haha – our TBRs – ever growing. Good problems to have though.
Lynn 😀
How on earth haven’t I read any of these? 🙈 I’m not surprised to see The Tainted Cup, The Silverblood Promise and The Heiress included; I’ve seen so much hype about them all that I’ve put them on my priority TBR. I also majorly want to check out The Moonlit Market soon as I loved the short story collection that I read by the author. This looks like a lovely mix of books and I guess it’s a good thing that you struggled to stick with a top ten as it means you had plenty of new favourites to chose from. Happy New Year. I hope 2025 brings even more new favourites your way.
TBH I can totally understand. So many good books – but good problems to have eh? You can believe the hype for those three books – well worth picking up – you won’t regret it. Joanne Harris is a fantastic author and I loved the Moonlit Market. I was lucky enough to have some very good books last year Fingers crossed this year is just as good.
Happy New Year Charlotte, may your 2025 be full of happiness (and good books of course.
Lynn 😀
Very true, it’s hard trying to find the time to read them all but it’s wonderful knowing there are lots of options on my TBR that I’m incredible excited for.
I’m not surprised to hear that as the collection I read by her is my favourite within the genre 😍
I’ll keep my fingers crossed that this year includes just as many, or hopefully even more, favourites 🤞
Thank you 🥰
I have The Tainted Cup, The Moonlight Market and The Spellshop lined up for this year so happy to see they made your best of the best list, especially when you managed to read so many books in total 😀
They were such good books. I actually think you’ll love them.
Lynn 😀
Nice! I haven’t read any, but have seen the first one on many blogs.

Happy new year of reading to you!
Happy New Year to you too.
The first one was definitely popular this year.
Lynn 😀
Hi Lynn, I am so pleased to hear you had such a great year of reading, that it was hard to pick just 10 top books! I would like to read The Spellshop.
Blessings, Jessica 💌
Aww Jessica – I think you would love The Spellshop.
Happy New Year to you and I hope you have a lovely 2025.
Lynn 😀
Thank you and a Happy New Year to you, too! 😊
Great list! You and I have a few overlaps, and I like seeing The Tainted Cup on all these posts 🙂
Yep, Tainted Cup has been very well received.
Lynn 😀
