Friday Face Off : “Now is the winter of our discontent, Made glorious summer by this sun of York”

FFO

Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy .  This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite.   Future week’s themes are listed below – I’ll be updating the list next week to include themes for 20202, if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme.  I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout.  This week’s theme is:

“Now is the winter of our discontent, Made glorious summer by this sun of York”  – a cover that puts you in mind of winter

This week I’ve chosen a book that I read pre-blog so there is no review for this one – but plenty of wintry covers and a ghost story.  The Winter Ghosts by Kate Mosse:

This week my favourite is:

Winter1

I really like the way the frost is encroaching along the edges of the book with the bare branched trees framed in the middle.

Which is your favourite?

I’ve included events that I’m aware of so that you can perhaps link your themes up where possible (if you know of an event you’d like to share then let me know in the comments).  I also have a list prepared for 2020 and so will set up a separate page soon for forthcoming themes.  As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment.

Next week –  A cover that features a temple or religious icon

Future themes: (if you’re struggling with any of these themes then use a ‘freebie’ or one of your favourite covers) (I’ve added some new themes – some of these are slightly different, in order to avoid too much repetition I’m trying to make the themes more of a suggestion that everyone can interpret how they like

  1. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

Love your pick, and the first one in the second row is also gorgeous. And hooray, a new list for the new year!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yay to a new list – trying to go for something a bit different and more open to interpretation.
      Lynn 😀

  2. Davida Chazan

To be honest, I think I like the one with the leaves on the snow better. But hey, matter of taste, right?

    • @lynnsbooks

Absolutely – it’s something that I love about the FFO – it really demonstrates how different we all are in our tastes.
      Lynn 😀

  3. Tammy

I love your favorite too. I also love #5!

    • @lynnsbooks

It was difficult to choose, I actually like a few of these tbh.
      Lynn 😀

  4. maddalena@spaceandsorcery

The “frozen windowpane” effect of your choice is eye catching, indeed, and I’l second Mogsy’s vote for the first cover in the second row – that snowbound cottage is mesmerizing 😉

    • @lynnsbooks

The cottage is a lovely cover with beautiful colours. Very eye catching indeed.
      Lynn 😀

  5. Greg

I think I like the first two- and the eighth one is kinda cool too!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes,the leaves on the snow cover is very unusual and eye catching because it’s so completely different to the rest.
      Lynn 😀

  6. sjhigbee

I really love that edging on your choice, Lynn – but I have to go with the majority this week… my favourite is that cottage! What a brilliant book to choose for this week’s theme. And many, many thanks for having sat down with everything else you’ve got on your plate – and taken the time and trouble to plan out well into 2020 our ongoing themes. You are SUCH a star!

    • @lynnsbooks

Thanks Sarah – it helps of course that I so enjoy the FFO.
      Lynn 😀

  7. confessionsofayareader

I surprisingly like quite a few of the covers. That rarely happens.

  8. waytoofantasy

Oh this is a great one. I love how so many of these are blue, I guess that is a sort of winter color because it’s ‘cool’ even though the sky is always gray in winter lol. 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Yes, you tend to think of blue as a winter colour but you’re right, the sky is more often than not a steely grey.
      Lynn 😀

  9. PerfectlyTolerable

I like the last cover best! But all the covers definitely have a winter vibe, great choice!
