Another busy week, lots of nice weather and socialising and very little reading.  What can I say – I do sometimes get caught up in life just like any other person.  So, this week, my reading has not been good,  Not for the want of trying, I just don’t seem to have made a great deal of headway.  I’ve read one book and made progress on another.  I’ve also completed the first stage of my SPFBO books and cut the first five books.  My post here.

Here’s what I’ve been reading:

My books:

  1. A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie – review to follow

ALittleHatred

I’m still reading the House of Sacrifice and I’m hoping to complete the following books over the next week:

Next scheduled reads:

  1. The House of Sacrifice by Anna Smith Spark
  2. Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs
  3. Shadows of the Short Days by Alexander Dan Vilhjálmsson

Upcoming reviews

  1. King of the Road by RS Belcher
  2. Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs
  3. Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs
  4. Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa
  5. Queenslayer by Sebastien DeCastell
  6. A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie

I’d love to know what you’re reading this week.

Just started rereading To Kill A Mockingbird–excited to read it again for the first time since I was a freshman in high school (8 years ago?!)

    • @lynnsbooks

I hope you enjoy the reread – it will be interesting to see how of if you perceive things differently.
      Lynn 😀

I look forward to reading your review of A Little Hatred! Currently finishing off the First Law trilogy and loving it.

    • @lynnsbooks

I confess I haven’t read the First Law trilogy – I really do want to though, although now I’ve read A Little Hatred I don’t know that I’ll go back. I really enjoyed it though and it will be interesting to see what fans of First Law will think – obviously I didn’t have that connection to some of the characters so I’m intrigued.
      Lynn 😀

The characters aren’t the same, I don’t think. It’s just the setting. I guess you could probably tell a bit what happened in the First Law from A Little Hatred… Or did he keep his previous books a bit of a secret for new readers?

      • @lynnsbooks

I think that the latest book has some characters out of First Law, but, they’re not the central figures – it’s passed onto the next generation in this book. I always find it difficult to go back to earlier books once I’ve started a new series – some kind of mental hang up all of my own 😀

I love the look of Shadows of the Short Days – what a fabulous cover. I do know how you feel – there are weeks when you sit down to read and either fall asleep (that regularly happens to me) or remember that something needs to be done…

    • @lynnsbooks

      Yep, exactly.
Shadow of the Short Days is very unusual. I’m a third in and struggling a little bit but I’m going to carry on.
      Lynn 😀

I look forward to hearing how you get on with it:)

  4. Rebecca

I can’t wait to see what you think of A Little Hatred!!

    • @lynnsbooks

I really loved it. My review will be up in a couple of weeks. Solid 4.5 star rating for me though. Of course, i haven’t read First Law so it will be interesting to see how ‘old’ fans react or feel towards it.
      Lynn 😀

  5. Greg

Same here- I didn’t get a lot of reading in this week.

I’m kind of curious to go see what shadows of the Short Days is about- and I’ve been curious too about Abercrombie as well.

    • @lynnsbooks

I loved the Abercrombie – Shadow of the Short Days is taking a little getting used to. It’s very unusual and I’ve yet to form an attachment to the characters but I’m pressing on – about a third through.
      Lynn 😀

  6. Tammy

I’m really behind too. I’m reading Three Laws Lethal and it’s really exciting! Now if I can keep my eyes open to read it😁

    • @lynnsbooks

Haha – I look forward to your review for that one then 😀

  7. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

Thanks for reminding me, I have to catch up with the Anna Smith Spark series!

  8. pagesandtea

Can’t wait to read what you think of A Little Hatred as i’ve got it on request from the library.

    • @lynnsbooks

I really liked it. I think Abercrombie has a great style of writing that just works really well for me – he manages to go from the battlefield and the horror of all the blood sweat and tears to a completely different tone and style within moments and it makes the read feel less onerous somehow. I just like his humour I suppose. This was really good – I can’t compare it to the original series though because I haven’t read it so it will be interesting to see how First Law fans feel.
      Lynn 😀

As long as you are enjoying yourself, then I say take a reading break. Sometimes we are so hard on ourselves. Seems like you are doing fine to me 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

I am enjoying myself and tbh my reading always slows a little at certain times of the year – it can’t be helped. Life just wants to be lived.
      Lynn 😀

  10. waytoofantasy

I’ve had a slow week the past two weeks! May we both have some better weeks ahead. 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

It’s the time of year isn’t it – so many other distractions.
      Lynn 😀
