Throwback Thursday : Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale (Modern Faerie Tales #1) by Holly Black

Throwback Thursday, is a new feature created by Tenacious Reader with the aim of  highlighting books from your reading past. This can be virtually anything, a book that you previously read and loved, a book that you want to highlight again, maybe it’s a book in a series and the next book is due out shortly so you want to focus some attention on the series.   Anything goes – so long as your book isn’t a current release as there are already plenty of ways to highlight the latest books.

The book I’d like to highlight this week is : Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale (Modern Faerie Tales #1) by Holly Black

I love books about the fae and Holly Black’s Modern Faerie Tales were the first books of the kind that I read.

Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother’s rock band until an ominous attack forces Kaye back to her childhood home. There, amid the industrial, blue-collar New Jersey backdrop, Kaye soon finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms – a struggle that could very well mean her death.

I’ve never read this, but I think I have a copy. (Story of my life!) Maybe I’ll try to find it😁

In some respects I’d love to go back and see how it compares to her most recent work – but then, do I have the time? No. And, I kind of like it as it is. I read this during a period of reading a lot of YA and I think I was a lot more forgiving – I’d hate to go back and then not like it. TBH I think I probably would still enjoy the series – Holly Black is the Queen of Fae.

Now that’s a great throwback! I looked it up, it was first pubbed 2002. Wow, has it been that long?

I can imagine it has. I know I read it a long time ago and it’s the series that really led me down the fae path. I sometimes consider rereading them just to see if I still like them but I think I prefer to keep them cherished in my memory. I actually think I would still like them tbh.

After loving The cruel prince, I’m now reading her previous work, so I’m hoping to read this at some point! Glad to see that you love the series!

I hope you enjoy this series. I certainly did at the time although it was quite a while ago – at a point when I really enjoyed YA and was probably a bit more forgiving. I have fond memories of that series though and have considered rereading.

Sounds like a good one. I like both covers as well.

I loved this series when I red it – wicked fae – what’s not to love. Holly Black definitely hooked me.

I loved The Cruel Prince and I have The Wicked King on my e-reader, so this is a book I need to lay my hands on, and soon: I enjoyed Holly Black storytelling from that single book I read, so I’m eager to try her other works 🙂

I truly did love this series – my first introduction to dark fae and I couldn’t get enough. However, this was a long year ago and at a time when I was more forgiving of YA – I sometimes wonder how I’d get on with a reread. I think I’d still enjoy them.

This sounds like my type of book!

I actually think you would like this series very much.
