A fairly quiet week the last one.  The other half’s back is getting a bit better but then I think we did that thing where you think everything’s okay so you overdo things.  Two steps forward one step back.  I’ve read two books this week (I did go off plan a little, sometimes the heart just takes over and wants what it wants.  I’m also two thirds through The Boy on the Bridge and a third into Ben Galley’s Chasing Graves.  I managed a couple of reviews and also started the Wyrd and Wonder #Spooktasticreads with a review of Creatures: The Legacy of Frankenstein which you can check out here.  So the past week looked like this and I can say upfront that I really enjoyed both these books and reviews will follow soon.  One is dark and sinister, based on myth, the other is a gothic story that has undertones of Rebecca and Jane Eyre – both make perfect #spooktasticreads:

  1. Slenderman – by ‘Annonymous’
  2. House of Glass by Susan Fletcher

Next week’s reads:

  1. Chasing Graves by Ben Galley
  2. In the Night Wood by Dale Bailey
  3. Songwoman by Ilka Tampke

Upcoming reviews:

  1. Starborn by Lucy Hounsom
  2. Envy of Angels by Matt Wallace
  3. Noir by Christopher Moore
  4. Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers
  5. Dracul by Dacre Stoker
  6. The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso
  7. Soulbinder by Sebastien DeCastell
  8. Slenderman – by ‘Annonymous’
  9. House of Glass by Susan Fletcher

Finally my giveaway for a copy of Laurence MacNaughton’s No Sleep Till Doomsday is now closed and the two winners are Rockfang and Andrew Einspruch (the author of one of my SPFBO books – Purple Haze).  Congratulations both – I’ve messaged you.

I’d love to know what you’re reading this week.

Sorry to hear the Other Half’s back is still grumbling – I recall mine took AGES to properly heal, which is both depressing and annoying… Hope this is the week where it turns a corner!

I like the look of the Ben Galley book, Lynn – and I hope you have a great reading week:)

I’m really curious to hear about Slenderman, I’m scared just looking at the cover and knowing a little about the urban legend😊

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, it’s not really scary – but it is a compelling read nonetheless.
      Lynn 😀

Ben’s book is on my TBR as well Lynn. Looking forward to it. Sorry to hear about the Other Half’s back trouble, they are awkward customers aren’t they? (Backs I mean, not Other Halves!) Though having said that….!

Lynn, I’m sorry to hear you and the other half perhaps over did it! Hopefully this coming week will be a relaxing one for you both. Over the last week, I finished reading A Letter of Mary by Laurie R. King, the 4th Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes mystery, and I started reading the newest dark, historical fiction, A Gathering of Ghosts, by Karen Maitland. Happy reading in the coming week! 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Wow, Jessica, you did a lot of reading. Look forward to your reviews – particularly Karen Maitland.
      Lynn 😀

I might read Slenderman, seems like a good October read

    • @lynnsbooks

It’s not a scary read but it’s quick and addictive.
      Lynn :C

Eek, I can’t wait to read Slender Man! Heard it was a quick one, I might try to fit it in before Halloween.

I hear ya on the heart wants what the heart wants, lol. I spent Saturday rereading a favorite, but otherwise stayed on track.

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, sometimes other books just start jumping up and down and catch my fickle attention. *shakes fist* – if it wasn’t for those darned pesky books, grrrr.
      Lynn 😀

Slenderman sounds interesting. I’ll poke around for a review. Here’s hoping your OH is feeling better soon!

  9. maddalena@spaceandsorcery

So many spooky books! Sometimes there is nothing like a good scare to forget the day-in/day-out troubles… My best wishes! 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Many thanks – slowly but surely things are becoming better.
      Lynn 😀

I just finished Slender Man last night and need to get my review up. I liked it but kind of wanted more. I loved the formatting though. I love this time of year and all the spooky recommendations!

    • @lynnsbooks

I definitely wanted more – especially from the ending.
      Lynn 😀
