If you only knew the power of the Dark Side.

It’s time once again to go Tough Travelling with Fantasy Faction,  On the first day of each month, with a pre arranged theme in mind, we will all come up with out own individual selection of books that take us travelling through the tropes of fantasy.  This month’s theme:

 MINIONS.

Minions of the DARK LORD can be male or female, though he tends to favour males (who seem to be more susceptible to the Evil One’s wiles). They can take many forms: BAD KINGS, ENCHANTRESSES, HIGH PRIESTS, EUNUCHS, DUKES, REGENTS or WITCHES. Additionally, there are the non-human minions, such as ORCS, TROLLS, GOBLINS and random OTHER PEOPLES . . . not to mention MUTANT NASTIES, carefully selected MONSTERS, UNDEAD, and DEMONS.

So, is there anybody at all who didn’t immediately think of these guys??:

Moving on:

Talk of the Dark Lord – you know I have to go there – Tolkien’s LotRs, Ors and lets not forget Saruman  and his army of Uruk-hai:

The Sa’ba Taalor from James Moore Seven Forges series.  A whole army of people who serve the will of their Gods.

The Death Eaters.  JK Rowlings Harry Potter and Lord Voldermort’s army of witches and wizards:

Wolves, dwarves, giants and others who serve the White Witch in CSLewis’s Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe:

And, can I just add these guys for good measure:

Renfield, indeed! The very essence of the (evil) minion… 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah – he’s a creepy guy indeed but then you have this momentary glimpse of something else which makes you feel sorry for him. Still minions eh..

    Excellent choices! I can’t believe I didn’t think of Groo’s minions.

‘You have to be pulling on my leg’. Funnily enough it was the first thing I thought of and then I couldn’t make anything else come to mind – so resorted to trusty LotRs.

Not gonna like, I kept thinking of the yellow minions as well, and it doesn’t help that my kids have been watching the movie non-stop. Awesome list, btw! And I approve of your post title!

    • @lynnsbooks

Haha – I couldn’t get the minions out of my head and once they were in there I could barely think of anything else! 😀 😀

You have great examples there! We can always count on LOTR and HP to add to these tropes. 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Yep, LotR and HP – more tropes than a trophy filled tropeville!
      Lynn 😀

In a round about way we have many of the same choices, although I chose specific minions, like Renfield and Wormtongue, rather than groups. I wish I had thought of the storm troopers from Star Wars! 😀

    • @lynnsbooks

Haha – Jessica, after all this time, we should just accept it, we think along the same lines in bookish terms. We’re like bookish twinses!
      Lynn 😀

I think I missed this one during September – which wasn’t the easiest month for me what with one thing and another… I’ll have a go at MINIONS… *hauls on thinking cap* I think you should have a gold star for the stormtroopers…
