So far so good

Every Tuesday over at  The Broke and Bookish we all get to look at a particular topic for discussion and use various (or more to the point ten) examples to demonstrate that particular topic.  This week’s topic is:

Best Books You’ve Read In 2017 (so far)

Probably a bit early for me to be making ‘best of’ lists but I’ve put together a list of 10 books that I’ve loved so far this year:

  1. New to me author: The Grey Bastards by Jonathan French
  2. Entertaining Alt History YA: The Valiant by Lesley Livingston
  3. Continuation of a great series: Chimes at Midnight by Seanan McGuire
  4. Fairytale retelling: Hunted by Meagan Spooner
  5. Stunning Space Opera :Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi
  6. Unexpected Hero: Heart of Stone  by Ben Galley
  7. Kick ass coming of age with nuns: Red Sister by Mark Lawrence
  8. New to me author: Skullsworn by Brian Staveley
  9. Unique and compelling: Prey of the Gods by Nicky Drayden
  10. Great finish to series: The Fallen Kingdom by Elizabeth May

You started quite well, so it stands to reason you can only move on to more and better! 🙂

I hope so – lots of goodies yet to look forward to.

The Hunted, Valiant and The Prey of Gods are all on my wishlist. Great looking books. Hope your second half of 2017 is just as good!

Thanks – here’s hoping that the next six months is packed with irresistible books.

Great list! There are quite a few on here that I want to read, especially The Prey of Gods.

I really enjoyed Prey of Gods – I hope you pick it up, so compelling.

I really enjoyed it but I confess I’m a sucker for fairytale retellings and Beauty and the Beast is my absolute favourite.

Glad you’ve enjoyed your reading so far and I hope you have many more great reads to come 🙂

This looks like a great list, Lynn – I, too, thoroughly enjoyed The Collapsing Empire – and I’ve ordered The Fallen Kingdom from the library so I’m really looking forward to this one when it becomes available:).

I’m keen to see what you make of The Fallen Kingdom – I really enjoyed it.
      Lynn 😀

There are so many books on this list that are on my To-Read list. Obviously I need to step up my game and read them!

    • @lynnsbooks's avatar @lynnsbooks

I feel exactly the same way about all the posts I keep seeing too – lots of books and little time – but I wouldn’t want it the other way around I suppose.
      Lynn 😀

What’s that famous saying? I was born with a “To-Read” list I’ll never finish?

It’s a great problem to have, truth be told.

It’s better than having no list at all isn’t it 😀

Ooh, I love the format you chose for your list, Lynn! I agree on The Valiant: it’s the definition of a fun and entertaining alt history. I can’t wait until you’re all caught up on the October Daye series. 😀

    • @lynnsbooks's avatar @lynnsbooks

August is my catch up month I think – October Daye here I come 😀

So many good looking books here. The Valiant is one I really want to read and I’m curious about the McGuire series. I’ve read a novella of hers but that’s about it…

I love space opera and have been on an SF kick lately so I really should look into The Collapsing Empire. I’ve never read scalzi…

    • @lynnsbooks's avatar @lynnsbooks

I confess that Seanan McGuire is now on my favourite author list. I love the October Daye series – it just keeps getting better.
      Lynn 😀

So much awesome in this list. I hear you about it being too early for Best Of lists, but I have a feeling The Grey Bastards would be on mine too at the end of the year – hard to bump that one off the top even with six more months to go in 2017! Skullsworn is also a favorite at this point, and The Valiant…like I said, so much awesome 🙂

We have had some good books so far this year – it’s going to be hard to choose a favourites list come New Year.
      Lynn 😀

So many good books! I haven’t yet read Collapsing Empire but I’m looking forward to it. Toby Daye books are always good.

I’m loving the Toby Daye books and have one waiting to be read – can’t wait.

I’m looking forward to finally sinking my teeth into The Collapsing Empire – I’ve had it on my TBR for months now, but it keeps being bumped by other things.

  13. Amanda @Cover2CoverMom's avatar Amanda @Cover2CoverMom

Hunted and Red Sister are on my TBR, so I was happy to see them make this list! Hope the second half of 2017 brings books that are just as wonderful as these 🙂

  14. fidan @Hergoodreads's avatar delphinethebabbler

I’m so glad to see Hunted is on your list! I read it a while back, but I do recall that I was definitely enchanted by the plot and characters. I’m a huge sucker for fantasy and fairytales, so that could perhaps be the reason – lol.
I look forward to reading more from you in the future… Happy Reading 🙂
