Waiting on Wednesday: The Song Rising (The Bone Season #3) by Samantha Shannon

“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme created by Breaking the Spine.  Every Wednesday we get to highlight a book that we’re really looking forward to.  My book this week is : The Song Rising (The Bone Season #3) by Samantha Shannon.  I am loving this series – I had no idea that the third book was nearly upon us.  It’s a woohoo moment people.  *Wants*

the-song-risingThe hotly anticipated third book in the bestselling Bone Season series – a ground-breaking, dystopian fantasy of extraordinary imagination

Following a bloody battle against foes on every side, Paige Mahoney has risen to the dangerous position of Underqueen, ruling over London’s criminal population.

But, having turned her back on Jaxon Hall and with vengeful enemies still at large, the task of stabilising the fractured underworld has never seemed so challenging.

Little does Paige know that her reign may be cut short by the introduction of Senshield, a deadly technology that spells doom for the clairvoyant community and the world as they know it…

I read the first book, but I wasn’t “wowed” by it, so I haven’t kept up. But I hope you love it, it’s a very ambitious project – seven books in the series, I think.

It is very ambitious and I can understand it not being for everyone to be honest. I preferred the second book to the first and I’m definitely intrigued to see what comes next.

Is it gritty? If it is, I will read it!
I think you can guess what my WoW is 🙂

Haha, no, I definitely wouldn’t call this one gritty – have you read The Grey Bastards???

I still havent read this series (I have the first book around somewhere. I think ebook? maybe audio? possibly both?)

Well, apparently there are going to be seven in the series so plenty of time to wait until a few more are available!

I am still deciding whether or not to continue this series. My feelings were sort of mixed for the first two books, but I still kinda want to know what happens! Maybe I’ll see how my reading schedule is in March before I make up my mind 🙂

Yeah, I liked the second book better but I feel that I have to know what happens next.

I’ve had the first book for ages, I really must read it soon!

I must admit that this series has had mixed reviews. The first book seemed to be quite popular with people who enjoyed the unlikely romance between two of the main characters – I wasn’t really two bothered about that aspect of the story which is just as well as it tails off in book 2. Overall I preferred book 2 so can’t wait to see how No.3 compares. This is a very ambitious series though – 7 books in all.
