So, this week, wow, I’ve been so busy in work that it’s taken over a little bit.  Still, them’s the breaks.  You have to be pragmatic, I work to pay the bills and buy the books!

Reading wise I’ve read With Blood Upon the Sand.  I’ve only just started In Calabria so that will be for the following week now.

Last week’s reads:

  • With Blood Upon the Sand by Bradley P Beaulieu

Next week I’m hoping to complete:

  1. In Calabria by Peter S Beagle
  2. The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams (The Winnowing Flame Trilogy #1)

And, finally, my cover compare this week is a book that I’m hoping to squeeze in as a backburn book – we’ll see:

My favourite cover is this one:

burial-1

How was your week?  What you currently reading?

It looks like a great reading week, Lynn. After recently reading both the Rebel in the Sands books, I’m definitely in the mood for more quality desert fantasy:)). And I also want to get hold of Jen Williams’ latest as I loved her Copper Cat series. Have a good week – hopefully less hectic and we can only long for less rain, can’t we??

Haha – I went to Iceland – and guess what – it rained for two full days (worse than Manchester!) Still, it was Iceland with it’s epic vistas!
      Lynn 😀

How marvellous! I love the idea of the landscape and those hot springs but… I’m rubbish in the cold.

      • @lynnsbooks

I can understand that. Surprisingly it wasn’t any colder than the UK really – wind chill aded to it on a couple of days but overall it wasn’t anywhere near as cold as I thought it would be.
        Lynn 😀

I’m not all that surprised – it feels bitter enough here at present:(.

I recently finished The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson and picked up Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander #2). With Outlander, I watch a season of the show first and then read the book for that season in between seasons. Keeps me full up on my Jamie Fraser addiction. 😉 (Also, I do this backwards so that I don’t know what is going to happen in the show. It’s the only series I do this with.)

    • @lynnsbooks

What an interesting idea! And how do you find the books and the series compare. I’ve only watched the first series so far but I thought it was a good adaptation and stuck pretty much to the plot line of the books.
      Lynn 😀

They switch some minor things around in season 2 but the dialogue is still frequently pulled straight from the book.

      • @lynnsbooks

        Good to know.
        Lynn 😀

Well, I’m farther now and they’re definitely playing around with things more but again, nothing too much.

  3. Tammy

I actually like all four of those covers! I’m finishing up two short things this weekend as well as Miranda and Caliban, so I’ll be ready to start something new tomorrow. Not sure what yet!

    • @lynnsbooks

I”m really looking forward to the Carey. Did you enjoy it?

I’m sorry to hear that work has been so encompassing recently – I had a very busy time last week too, which slowed my reading. I made up for this weekend by finishing The Shack by William Paul Young and Faith and Moonlight by Mark Gelineau & Joe King. I hope you able to find more time to read this week! 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Thanks (as it happened I didn’t – but that’s because I’ve been away – so can’t really grumble!)
      Lynn 😀

  5. Lisa (@TenaciousReader)

I’m still reading With Blood Upon the Sand (I think I started a week before you and am still only half way through! Have had family in town and just way less time to read 😦

  6. Redhead

How is everyone liking With Blood Upon the Sand? I have it, but haven’t had a chance to start it yet.

    • @lynnsbooks

I’m about 50% in. I love returning to the world and to Ceda, I guess to be totally honest I’m finding this maybe not quite as addictive as the first – but, that being said i have plenty more to come.
      Lynn 😀

  7. Nathan

I am reading Amberlough by Lara Elena Donnelly and it is excellent. And timely.

    • @lynnsbooks

Okay, goes away to look that one up…. wow, Le Carre meets Cabaret – can’t wait to read your review.
      Lynn 😀

Looking forward to your thoughts on In Calabria. It was a very short book, but it took me a couple days just to make it through the first part since I had so many distractions and the beginning of the book wasn’t interesting to pull me back. But it got much better after that, and I ended up loving it.

    • @lynnsbooks

His writing is really lovely isn’t it. I’m definitely looking forward to this one.
      Lynn 😀

  9. S. C. Flynn

I agree with your cover choice, Lynn. Looks like your reading is going just fine!
