Versatile? Me??

I was nominated recently by Birdie Bookworm for the Versatile Blogger Award. Thank you so much for the nomination you lovely blogger you.  Here’s the gen:

  1. Display Award (ahem, above)
  2. Thank the person who gave this award (and include a link to their blog.)(Also above).
  3. Share seven things about yourself. (below)
  4. Nominate ten bloggers.(more about that shortly…)

  1. I’m a basically grumpy, curmudgeonly type.  This is not an opinion but a bona fide fact.  I don’t like mornings.  I resent getting out of bed and I really don’t want to be sociable until I’ve drank A LOT of coffee.  I just don’t understand why we have mornings – they should be part of our sleeping time.  What is the point, really.  Explain it to me.  Why?
  2. That takes me onto point two.  I don’t drink coffee after lunchtime.  It keeps me awake at night if I do.  Coffee is for the morning.  Tea is for the  afternoon.  Them’s the rules.  Biscuits also sometimes come into play.  Custard creams!  Yes, that is a type of biscuit – if all else fails Bourbons (Lisa – I’m looking at you and if you’re reading this you know who you are!)
  3. I pretty much always stay up late at night – which is why I hate getting up in the morning.  I’m a night person.  Staying up until late is my thing.  I’m like an owl.  But I’m also like a bear – I like my sleep  – Im a Browl!   It’s now a thing.
  4. I don’t like seafood but I love fish.  Seafood – well, perhaps I read too many books, but most of it looks like a plate of aliens, with tentacles.  Get away from me.  No.  Just no! It’s wrong.  RUN!
  5. I talk to my dog..  All the time.  This is embarrassing because sometimes I”m out walking him and other people hear.  Why can’t I just learn that lesson.  Doh!
  6. If I could eat trifle for breakfast I would.  I like trifle.  What can I say?  It would have to be good trifle though.  Share your recipes with me if you like.  You can’t have too many good recipes.  I’m not particularly a sweet lover but trifles and cookies – yes.
  7. When I was about 7 years old, I stepped out of the house and something landed on my head (no, not that).  I thought it was a huge bumble bee and ran around the place screaming for about 10 minutes (at least it felt like that but was probably actually closer to 10 seconds – I was 7 and time was all distorted)!  Anyway, once I eventually dragged this tiny thing out of my hair (and it really was clinging on there – plus, my hair was very long) it was a tiny baby blue bird (a blue tit).  Clearly learning how to fly and maybe not quite succeeding.  Long story short I put it in a birdhouse that we already had in the garden (that had never been used I hasten to add) and then watched every day as it’s mum (or dad) came to feed it.  A few days later it was gone.  Hopefully it had flown away under it’s own steam.  I confess I was gutted.  I may have cried a little but nobody saw so it doesn’t count.  I really thought that bird had bonded with me and would return to my windowsill – hah, 7 year old dreams eh!  I still like that that bird landed on my head though, raindrops keep falling on your head – no blue birds!

That’s my seven facts about me – most of them are pretty silly but that’s the way the cookie crumbles (unless it’s gone stale – in which case I wouldn’t eat it for breakfast).

I actually nominate everyone (in the whole world).  I know that seems like a cop out but basically if you fancy doing a post and letting me (and everyone else) know something about you then go for it.  I love these posts.  I love reading all your answers.  And, I might be a self confessed curmudgeon but I pretty much always try to take part when somebody nominates me for one of these.

Go on now.  Knock yourself out and tell us a few things about you – and, if you do, please leave me a link. Enquiring minds, etc.

Ta. 😀

Awesome post! Had me smiling!😀 I dislike mornings and have to work them! 4am starts the week before Christmas, not sure if that is still night or morning!😂

Ah, custard creams, Yum, biscuits in general should always accompany a cup of tea in my opinion. So… is for morning, tea is for afternoon…..if I remember correctly you like wine to, when is wine time!?🍷🍷😀

I thought most people talked to their dogs, I always did with mine.

    • @lynnsbooks

I hate mornings and get in work as late as possible. Fortunately we have flexi time so it’s nearer to ten than nine. Wine o’clock is any time in the evening.
I do talk to my dog all the time – it makes me think I’m crazy sometimes! Secretly though I think my dog likes it.
      Lynn 😀

Congratulations on the nomination – I loved this post and learning so many facts about you. When we had a dog, I also used to talk to him, endlessly. The only one who truly understood… Yes… I’m not a fan of mornings, either. Currently Himself is on the-stupidly-early-shift, so if I want the car (like today, for instance) I have to roll out of bed around 4.30 am and drive him into work. I have to say, you keep your grumpy side well and truly tucked away:). Thank you for sharing!

    • @lynnsbooks

I enjoy do something silly. Ohh 4.30 no! I would hate it and probably be in a very grumpy mood.
      Lynn 😀

      • sjhigbee

It’s not my favourite time of the day, either… Although the good news is that tomorrow I don’t have to do the run until 5.10 am – which is nearly halfway through the morning if you look at it creativity.

      • @lynnsbooks

Haha – I don’t think I can look at early mornings creatively! They’re just wrong. Although I can at least admit that there’s a certain peacefulness at that time of the day that is really lovely.
        Lynn 😀

      • sjhigbee

There! You see? I KNEW you could do it:)).

      • @lynnsbooks

Haha – you tricked me into it!

  3. maddalena@spaceandsorcery

And TOTAL agreement on point 1 (both the curmudgeonliness and the hate for mornings). WHY, indeed… 🙂
And there’s nothing strange in talking to your dog: they are very intelligent creatures, and I think that if they could reply to us, we could entertain some very interesting conversations. I don’t share my life with a dog, unfortunately, but I’m terribly fond of a friend’s dog, a lovely Golden Retriever who made me understand that one does not need words or language to be a wonderful friend.

    • @lynnsbooks

Wouldn’t it be excellent if your dog could answer back – although imagine when the wanted to go for a walk they’re be incessant! I absolutely adore my dog – I don’t know what I’d do without him.
      Lynn 😀

  4. Birdie

A Browl, that’s great! I’m now trying to come up with a cross species for me, one that goes to bed by 10 and wakes up by 7… but my brain keeps thinking bird and bird… which when combined gives me “bird”. If the blog fits, I guess. 😜

    • @lynnsbooks

Hah, I quite like Browl – it should be a name of a creature shouldn’t it – well, it is, it’s me! Seen as you’re an early bird who wakes up fairly early too you could be a Birly.
      Lynn 😀

  5. Zezee

    Congrats on your award!
I’m not a morning person either and I hate talking to people first thing in the morning, which is why I hide my head in a book while on the way to work so no one talks to me. After about noon I’m ready for conversations.
And that’s a sweet little story about your 7 year old self. 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, even if I see somebody I know in the morning I just sit with my head in my book and hope they don’t notice me – how rude am I – but I just don’t want to make polite conversation at that time in the day!
I really thought that bird would bond with me – too many Disney films!
      Lynn 😀

  6. jessicabookworm

I love a custard cream or bourbon biscuit 🙂 but you can have all the trifle I’m afraid – I can’t deal with the texture.

    • @lynnsbooks

Haha – it seems everyone I know dislikes trifle – more for me eh!
      Lynn 😀

  7. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

Lynn? Curmudgeony? Now I don’t believe that! You’re like one of the nicest people I know 🙂 Okay, but I can see why you would be grumpy when you wake up. I am like cranky mcpants when my precious sleep gets disturbed too because I too am a night owl and I need whatever sleep I can get to make up for it. The holidays are great, I can stay up as late as I want without feeling too guilty 🙂

  8. ~ Angie Elle ~

Wow – you’re the very first ‘browl’ I’ve met! Pleased to meet you.

Your post had me chuckling the whole way through. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Aw, thanks 😀 I really like the idea of being a Browl! I should get a t-shirt printed!
      Lynn 😀

  9. nrlymrtl

I like your blue tit story. When I was 7, it was a cicada that fell in my hair – which is a rather creepy looking bug (and I really do like bugs). Anyway, I too spent about 10 minutes screaming but once I got it out of my hair it was attached to my fingers and wouldn’t let go, so I spent another 5 minutes screaming. My parents weren’t ones to be perturbed by little kid screams, so I eventually stopped and found a nice bush to shove the cicada off on to.

    • @lynnsbooks

OMG the screaming really would have begun if I found a bug in my hair! I actually thought it was a huge bee and I was just scared of being stung – but a bug – run for the hills!
      Lynn 😀

  10. Amanda @Cover2CoverMom

“I resent getting out of bed and I really don’t want to be sociable until I’ve drank A LOT of coffee.”

    Amen sister 🙂

    • @lynnsbooks

Haha – excellent – I don’t like to think I’m the only one!
      Lynn 😀
