For the month of November Rinn Reads and Over the Effing Rainbow host a wonderful event called Sci Fi 2016 in which we celebrate all things sci fi.  Check out the details here and come and join the fun.

Today I’m looking at : Films coming out in 2017.  Hopefully the dates are correct but I guess they’re open to change.  Anyhow, here are a few of the goodies we can look forward to in 2017:

Logan – Due out March 2017

Set in the future, Logan and Professor Charles Xavier must cope with the loss of the X-Men when a corporation led by Nathaniel Essex is destroying the world leaving it to destruction, with Logan’s healing abilities slowly fading away and Xavier’s Alzheimer’s forcing him to forget. Logan must defeat Nathaniel Essex with the help of a young girl named Laura Kinney, a female clone of Wolverine.

A little more Wolverine can’t hurt!

Ghost in the Shell – Due out March 2017

Starring Scarlett Johansson: A cyborg policewoman attempts to bring down a nefarious computer hacker.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol II – due out April 2017

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Oh yes!  I can’t wait for this one.

Chris Pratt, Michael Rooker, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan.

Look closely at the picture below and you’ll find a teeny-tiny Groot:

First impression: Looks as though this might bear a few similarities to Alien but we’ll see.

Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga.  I’m very much anticipating this one.

I can’t wait for Guardians of the Galaxy 2! I was excited to see Michael Rooker.

I also am ready for Dark Tower!

    • @lynnsbooks

Yeah, Guardians can’t come soon enough! Loved the first film.
      Lynn 😀

I am really looking forward to Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy II and Star Wars episode VIII. I loved The Dark Tower books, but some of the casting and production choices in the film have left me feeling meh…so sadly won’t be rushing out to see it. Meanwhile, I didn’t know there was going to be another Alien film that’s exciting and I really hope Blade Runner 2049 is a sequel not a remake; the original is too good for that 😀

    • @lynnsbooks

I think, from what I read, that the Blade Runner film is a sequel. There was no info on the story but it supposedly ties in with the first.
      Lynn 😀

Oh my goodness! 2017 is going to be a happily busy year for SF on the big screen!
This is the first time I hear about “Valerian” and if it’s as gorgeous as the image you posted, it’s going to be a great experience. And…. Baby Groot… YESSSSS! 😀
(thank you for pointing him out, otherwise I might have missed him…)

Blade Runner 2049 and Star Wars are the big ones for me, although Guardians Vol. 2 might be fun too. If nothing else I want to hear the mixtape. 🙂 And if Yondu and Nebula join that could be fun. Valerian looks interesting but I hated Lucy, so I’m never sure what I’m getting with Luc Besson.

Great list, looks like an awesome SF year!
