“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. Every Wednesday we get to highlight a book that we’re really looking forward to. My book this week is : New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson
A new vision of the future of New York City in the 22nd century, a flooded, but vibrant metropolis, from Kim Stanley Robinson, the New York Times bestselling author of science fiction masterworks such as the Mars trilogy, 2312, and Aurora.
The waters rose, submerging New York City.
But the residents adapted and it remained the bustling, vibrant metropolis it had always been. Though changed forever.
Every street became a canal. Every skyscraper an island.
Through the eyes of the varied inhabitants of one building, Kim Stanley Robinson shows us how one of our great cities will change with the rising tides.
And how we too will change.
Expected publication: March 21st 2017 by Orbit

Oh wow! This sounds really interesting!! I’m going to check it out. Thanks!! 🙂
Excellent – it does sound good.
Lynn 😀
Ooo… this one looks awesome! *fingers twitch with longing*
Haha – the old ‘twitchy fingers’ feeling! I know it well.
Lynn 😀
Sounds really interesting. Must read this book.
Yeah, I’m really looking forward to it – I hope it lives up to the promise.
Lynn 😀
This sounds like a great read! I hope you enjoy it!
Me too 😀
Well, that’s a welcome change: a post-apocalyptic story (I guess the flood was no picnic…) that still depicts humanity in a positive way. Good to know, thank you! 🙂
I like the look of this one – I haven’t read this author before so hopefully this will be a good starting point.
Lynn 😀
KSR is one of my favorite authors. Last year’s Aurora is a must read. This new one will undoubtly be a feast. KSR is so good because of his hopeful yet realistic optimism about humanity.
That’s good news – it would be nice to read a book with a little bit of hope (for this type of story that is – they’re usually a bit gloomy and frightening!)
Lynn 😀
When I saw this, my first thought was Venice, only more extreme version. But really, who know how the world will look like 100 years from now…
I hope you’ll like this book. 🙂
It’s a bit of a scary thought isn’t it!
Lynn 😀
YES! I was so excited when I heard he was working on his next novel, and then New York 2140 got its title, synopsis, and that beautiful cover. I really enjoyed Aurora, which was my first KSR novel and I’m looking forward to more.
I haven’t read that – I’ll maybe go and check it out and add to my wishlist!
Lynn 😀
Now THAT looks interesting, and nice to see some relatively near future SF that looks at how climate change might really affect iconic places. Nice pick!

It does look really good doesn’t it.
Lynn 😀
I can’t tell from this description of this is a novel or non fiction, lol. In any case, it sounds great!
Now you come to mention it – good point!
Lynn 😀
I’ve got quite a few of Stanley Robinson’s books, but haven’t read any yet!
Well, this will be my first (assuming I get to pick it up!)
Lynn 😀
What an interesting concept. Sounds like something I might want to read. Thanks for sharing it!
It does sound good – not read this author yet so this could be my starting point.
