Hi everyone
Just a quick post to notify you of a readalong of Rosemary and Rue (October Daye #1, by Seanan McGuire). Organised by the lovely Lisa at Over the Effing Rainbow. The details are over here on goodreads – the schedule is below. I’ve been wanting to start this series for a long time and so this is the perfect opportunity to share thoughts and banter on a series that enjoys a lot of reader love! There are quite a few in the series so no doubt the readalongs will continue if everyone is enjoying them.
- Week 1: Saturday 9th January, Chapters 1-6, hosted by Over the Effing Rainbow
- Week 2: Saturday 16th January, Chapters 7-14, hosted by (me) Lynn at Lynn’s Books
- Week 3: Saturday 23rd January, Chapters 15-20, hosted by Anya at On Starships and Dragonwings
- Week 4: Saturday 30th January, Chapters 21-End, hosted by Over the Effing Rainbow
A little bit about the first book:
October “Toby” Daye, a changeling who is half human and half fae, has been an outsider from birth. After getting burned by both sides of her heritage, Toby has denied the Faerie world, retreating to a “normal” life. Unfortunately for her, the Faerie world has other ideas…
The murder of Countess Evening Winterrose pulls Toby back into the fae world. Unable to resist Evening’s dying curse, which binds her to investigate, Toby must resume her former position as knight errant and renew old alliances. As she steps back into fae society, dealing with a cast of characters not entirely good or evil, she realizes that more than her own life will be forfeited if she cannot find Evening’s killer.
Oh, one of my favorite U.F. series! It might be fun to revisit the beginning… 🙂
Oh yes, if you have the books already you should jump on board, you could just skim them and join in really! Plus, I post my answers but a lot of people just join in on Goodreads which is even easier.

Gah I read this one earlier this year! I probably won’t reread, but I’ll sure be following along. And if you guys continue with book two, I’m so there 🙂
I’m hoping that this is going to be good – I think there’s about 8 books so far?? So part of me is expecting the first book to not be totally outstanding – but hopefully we’ll continue with the series and it will just grow. Tbh I never liked the first Dresden or Brigg’s books but I pressed on with both and then really enjoyed both series.

I’m so excited for this!!! Can’t wait to get started 😀
Me too, I’ve wanted to read this series for some time but it’s one of those cases where there seem such a lot of books that you feel really far behind and it becomes a bit overwhelming. With a readalong it feels easier to catch up somehow, there’s a more gentle pace of reading and reading everyone’s comments helps to bring to light things that you would otherwise miss.
Lynn 😀
I definitely agree with that! I loved that last read along and the chunks of chapters seemed to fit almost effortlessly into my reading ‘timetable’. I’ve been looking for a new UF fix too so hopefully this will satisfy my cravings! 😀
Yep, I’ve been on the lookout for some more good UF – fingers crossed that this is it!
Have a wonderful time with the read along 😀 I’m going to skip on this one for now (though I might try a last minute catch up later…) holidays are just waaaay too busy, I can barely keep up with blogging!
I’m looking forward to it – it’s a fairly lengthy series which I probably wouldn’t pick up under my own steam but a readalong will give me the push. Blogging is slow at this time of year for sure.
Lynn 😀
