Out from the door where it began:

This week over at the Fantasy Review Barn Nathan is taking us Tough Travelling looking at the tropes of fantasy. This week the topic up for discussion is:
The Well Travelled Road:
(This is a scheduled post so I may not be linked up over at the FRB – also, I don’t have the blurb so I’m taking this title to mean exactly what it says and not be all cryptic!)
- I have to go there – Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. It would be frankly unforgivable to not include this book in this post!
- The Road by Cormac McCarthy – yes, this is a bit dark and rather gloomy to be frank. But… Apocalyptic fantasy and definitely worth a read.
- The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams – not fantasy but who cares – this really is a road trip, of sorts, kind of …well, there is plenty of travelling so I think it counts.
- A Game of Thrones GRR Martin – I’m thinking of Daenerys Targaryen when she leads her people (or what’s left of them) to try and reclaim her crown.
And, finally – I still had to go there – a clue ‘lions and tigers and bears, oh my’

The title to this post just reminded me of the LOTR musical and the titular song “The Road Goes On” LOL. Now I must go listen to it.
That song is great – happy listening π
Oh yes, the Hobbit! “There and back again”… π
I think I had the wrong notion with this one – should probably have been naming specific roads – oops
Lynn π
Creative pick with The Hitchhiker’s Guide! I think that’s the best one this week π
Thanks – I do think I probably had the wrong idea with this theme but.. oh well.
Lynn π
I took this topic literally and named roads π I still got Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire and The Wonderful Wizard if Oz though.
Yeah, I think I had the wrong end of the stick for this one – oops!
Lynn π
Of course you have to include Lord of the Rings! π
I use virtually every opportunity!
Lynn π
All good choices, Lynn.
Thanks – although I think I had the wrong idea with this week’s theme!
Lynn π
The Hitchhiker’s Guide is a perfect choice, indeed. Should we celebrate it with some Vogon poetry? π
Haha, yes we should. π
