Mother! I’ve turned the cooling unit back on. Mother!…… ’You bitch’

This week over at the Fantasy Review Barn Nathan is taking us travelling once again through the tropes of fantasy.  The topic this week: MOMS:

Everyone has a mother. Including people in fantasyland.

The head of family, mummy Scott – immortal vampire, incredibly strong, rules the family with an iron fist but is gradually becoming weaker.  Generation V by M L Brennan

Lady Trent – may not seem like a pillar of virtue after she first has her son but in Voyage of the Basilisk the two really started to bond well and he actually brought out a different side.  Lady Trent’s Memoirs by Marie Brennan

Penelope – Nevada’s mother from Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews – one kick ass mom!

Coraline’s other mother – the evil mum who wants to stitch buttons on for eyes – ouch!  Coraline by Neil Gaiman.

Mrs Weasley – needs no introduction – just ‘not my daughter – you bitch!’

Haha we both used the same picture of Molly Weasley. 😀 ‘Not my daughter, you bitch!’ is literally THE best moment from Deathly Hallows. Go Mollywobbles!

Go Mollywobbles – henceforth – that shall be how we know her! Heehee
      Lynn 😀

Love the alien brood queen photo, and I considered Coraline’s other mother as well. I’m afraid I went with some of the worst examples, although I did manage one heroic mom.

    • lynnsbooks

Some of mine are not the best mums ever, but! Looking forward to seeing what you came up with this week 😀

  3. Tammy

Some great examples. Mrs. Weasley is a brilliant choice, I adore her.

    • lynnsbooks

She’s proving to be popular. You have to love her and that final scene with Bellatrix is awesome!
      Lynn 😀

Great choice with Mrs. Weasley and Coraline’s other mother!

    • lynnsbooks

Yeah, I quite liked the evil other mother choice.
      Lynn 😀

  5. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

YES! I didn’t use Generation V because I’ve used it much too much, but I was hoping someone would name Madeline Scott this week 🙂

    • lynnsbooks

I couldn’t remember her name – that why I said Mommy Scott! Madeline – how could I forget.
      Lynn 😀

  6. Lisa (@TenaciousReader)

Ha! Love the Mrs. Weasley pick (and pic) 🙂

  7. Danya @ Fine Print

Penelope! Great memory, Lynn. I was trying to recall her name but I could only remember Grandma Frida’s, haha. Molly Weasley fan club, unite!

  8. maddalena@spaceandsorcery

Madeline Scott is an intriguing choice: she’s both maternal AND scary – where her daughter instills fear through evilness, she does it by being coldly collected, like a cobra before it strikes… ((shudder))

    • lynnsbooks

Yeah – and the punishment she hands out to Prudence – wow! Don’t get on her wrong side.
      Lynn 😀

  9. jessicabookworm

    I love Mrs Weasley!

    • lynnsbooks

I know – that final scene was awesome as well!
      Lynn 😀

  10. Kaja

Molly Weasley is so popular this week! 🙂
Ugh, Coraline’s other mother… I hardly remember anything from that book, I read it so long ago, but buttons for eyes – CREEPY!

I’m so glad to see Mrs. Weasley showing up on several lists! She deserves an award for being the best magical mum in fantasyland. Seeing Lady Trent show up on these lists makes me more intrigued in that series and I was already very interested.

    • lynnsbooks

Yes, you should read the Lady Trent series – it’s very good so far.
      Lynn 😀

  12. Lily Lau

Mrs Weasley, I completely adore her 😀

    • lynnsbooks

Yes, she’s been very popular this week. You have to love her though.
      Lynn 😀
