‘We are the knights who say ‘ni’ ………. and we want a shrubbery’!

Once again Thursday has arrived and Tough Travel is upon us!  That’s right, we’re off, following Nathan, from the Fantasy Review Barn, down the yellow brick road to wherever it should lead:  This week :

Knights:

Um. Noble rich people on horseback. Come on, you people know what knights are. (Topic provided byMiriam)

Sebastian – I love this character.  Strictly speaking he has been banished from Ynnsmouth where he was a knight – however, I’ll let you find out about that for yourselves because I know you’ll be on Sebastian’s side!  The Copper Promise and Iron Ghost by Jen Williams

Merry from LotR – you know I had to go there – wasn’t he named a Knight of the Mark for his bravery in battle – plus helping to kill one of the main baddies??  Now, the picture below is not Merry but, you know, I thought we should look at the Mark itself…..ahem.

Sir Guy of Gisbourne from Howard Pyle’s Robin Hood – to be honest I don’t remember a great deal about him but I know he was in that story somewhere!

Jaime Lannister from GRRM’s Game of Thrones.  Been a knight for many a long year – whether you like him or not – there it is!  I so wanted to put the Hound – but he’s not a knight unlike his rather cruel brother Ser Gregor.

Roiben – a seelie knight and one of the main characters from Holly Black’s Tithe.

Plus – there are lots of Knights – in the Golden Son, by Pierce Brown – my current read!

Them’s my contributions except for one very honourable mention : Sir Didymus from The Labyrinth:

‘Sir Ludo, canst thou summon up the very rocks?’

I love Sir Didymus and your Monty Python quote for the title. I actually got a birthday card this year with that quote on and I still have it up in my bedroom because it makes me smile 🙂

I could go on and on and on with Monty Python quotes – literally! And, strangely they never fail to make me laugh. Every single time.

Yay for Monty Python quotes 😉
THANK YOU for the pretty picture of the pretty horseman with the pretty hair. So lovely! I only figured out today that the dude who played him in the movie also played the funny doc in Star Trek O_o He’s like two different people.

I know!!! when I watched Star Trek I was all like ‘who is that guy really? I’m sure I know him’ It took me a while – but they are quite far removed!!

I really need to give “The Cooper Promise” a try. I’ve read some good things about it.

Jen Williams is excellent – she’s one of my new love authors! She has a very vivid imagination and she’s not afraid to use it!

Wonderful addition of Sir Didymus …and you are right…I do want a shrubbery:)

Didymus was just brilliant – I loved it when he’s whistling his dog back – so funny!

I was too busy to do Tough Traveling this week, so Wendy held down the fort. But if I had participated, The Copper Promise and Sebastian would have been at the top of my list! Yes, I’m totally on his side!

    • @lynnsbooks's avatar lynnsbooks

I love Sebastian and his character is developed more in Iron Ghost.
Wendy did a great job too – it’s always nice when you’re both contributing obviously but you have your hands full at the moment!

Aw, man – I think I need to watch the Labyrinth for the 57th time. The Williams books look so pretty – I love those cover designs. A mention of Sir Guy send me straight to Richard Armitage which is a nice place to go to:). Thanks!

    • @lynnsbooks's avatar lynnsbooks

I don’t even know how many times I’ve watched the Labyrinth – enough to quote it when I watch (much to the annoyance of everyone else).
The Jen Williams books are lovely to look at and even lovelier to read – I just can’t recommend them enough tbh.
      Lynn 😀

Sir Didymus was a fabulous knight!! There are knights in Red Rising / Golden Son? Interesting

    • @lynnsbooks's avatar lynnsbooks

Well, they’re called knights – I’m not sure exactly how they fit in with our version of what a knight is but I thought I’d throw it in for good measure. It’s a strange world – it’s set massively in the future but the concepts are very classic in fact the whole idea with the colours ‘gold’, etc, is a little bit like Plato’s idea of the perfect city.

Nice list, and I love your Python quote! I thought about the Riders of the Mark, but in the end, the Tolkien “knight” I included was Faramir. He and Aragorn are about as close as you can get to the perfect knight in Middle Earth.

    • @lynnsbooks's avatar lynnsbooks

OMG – I do love Aragorn and Faramir is also a great character. I think even though neither of them have the title of knight they totally embody everything ‘knightly’ in their own personalities.
      Lynn 😀

Whoa…totally didn’t realize that Guy of Gisbourne was a knight. And I completely missed Monty Python. Don’t look at me, the shame!!!

    • @lynnsbooks's avatar lynnsbooks

Well – perhaps I got it wrong whoops!!! Oh well, what you gonna do – call the knight police. heheheheh. Missed Monty Python? Missed Monty Python?? – haha – it was the first thing that sprang to my mind because I’m a bit sad with the Month references!
      Lynn 😀
