Readers Imbibing Peril (RIP – over at Stainless Steel Droppings) has finally come to it’s conclusion and I can’t believe how fast that went by. Another really excellent event with loads of participants and book talk. Running during September and October I managed to contribute the following (I did have a couple of others that were appropriate but I forgot to place the link! – doh):
September
- Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes
- Brood by Chase Novak
- The Splendour Falls by Susanna Kearsley
October
- The Broken Road by Teresa Frohock
- Spark by John Twelve Hawks
- The Undying by Ethan Reid
- Generation V by M L Brennan
A huge thanks to Carl for being such a fantastic host and taking the time to run this event. It’s massively popular and I really look forward to choosing the books and waiting for all the other reviews. Thanks again! 😀
October round up:
I’ve had a bit of a self-imposed Halloween-a-thon over the past few weeks. My October reads have been:
- The Broken Road by Teresa Frohock
- Puppet by Pauline C Harris
- Spark by John Twelve Hawks
- The Storyteller and her Sisters by Cheryl Mahoney
- The Undying by Ethan Reid
- The Tropic of Serpents by Marie Brennan
- The Endangered by S L Eaves
- The Fall by Bethany Griffin
- The Reviver by Seth Patrick
- Generation V by M L Brennan
- Fevre Dream by GRRMartin
- The Vampyre: A Tale by John W Polidori
Four vampire stories included – and all completely different styles!
Looking forward, November sees the start of a number of sci fi events. This one here is particularly interesting and you might want to go and sign yourself up – looks like fun!
As for me, I’m going to mix up my November reads a little (I do have a couple of sci fi novels singled out) – October was a bit of a scare fest so it will be nice to sprinkle some good old fantasy into the mix – starting with The City Stained Red which I’m really looking forward to.
Let me know what you’re reading…
You are doing Sci-Fi November as well? Sweet! 😀
Well, technically speaking, ahem, I haven’t signed up yet. But I was thinking I could read that book I picked up from your blog last month – James Corey, plus I have Anne Leckie to read yet and a couple of series to finish – like Hugh Howey.
Lynn 😀
Well done you! I only managed 3 of my planned 4 books for RIP, but I am half way through the last one! It’s a great event and I’m already planning what books in the 746 can be saved for next year!
Actually, this year, I didn’t plan any books – which I think was good for me as my plans never seem to quite work out! I do love this event and also Once Upon a Time.
Lynn 😀
yahhhhh I’m going to try for the sci fi november also – it won’t all be sci fi of course but hopefully more then I normally read! You did have a fabulous month glad to see you read Generation V!
I loved Generation V and have bought the second already and pre-ordered the 3rd! I’ve got at least two sci fi novels that I have lined up – possibly four and maybe a film or two. I like trying to up my sci fi a bit – I tend to focus more on fantasy.
Lynn 😀
Well done seven books for the R.I.P event is great, and twelve for the month is amazing! Happy reading in November 🙂
I’m going to try a few sci fi novels for November – hoping to take part (only dipping my toe in though) in Sci Fi November – Rinns Reads. Are you joining in for a couple of books?
Lynn 😀
I don’t think so. While I like sci-fi I don’t tend to read a great deal of it. I hope you enjoy the event.
Surprisingly, I usually find I’ve read more sci-fi than I think – of course, if The Time Machine is picked from your list you could include it!
Lynn 😀
