Top Ten Characters who…
This week at The Broke and the Bookish the topic is ‘Top Ten Characters who x’:
- Make me love them: Aragorn from Lord of the Rings (JRR Tolkien) (first book crush)
- Make me hate them: Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones by GRRMartin or maybe his parents – ew!
- I like them even though I shouldn’t: Loki – he’s not exactly the most reliable of narrators but I really enjoyed The Gospel of Loki by Joanne Harris.
- I want to be friends with: Lady Isabella Trent from A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan or Lord Ermenwyr from Kage Baker’s Anvil of the World.
- I would seek advice from: Wit from Brandon Sanderson’s Way of Kings – okay, I probably wouldn’t understand the advice but it would certainly be entertaining.
- I would want them to stand in my corner: Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher (he can do magic after all!)
- I would Least want to cross swords with: Inigo Montoya from William Goldman’s The Princess Bride ‘you killed my father, prepare to die’.
- I would hate to meet in a dark alley: Lestat from Anne Rice’s Interview With A Vampire (“I’m going to give you the choice that I never had”)
- I would love to meet in a dark alley: Jean Tannen from the Gentlemen Bastards by Scott Lynch (ahhh, book love)
- I would never argue with: Jorg Ancrath from The Broken Empire series of books by Mark Lawrence (simply because I like my head where it currently sits thank you very much and he can be a bit, mmm, hasty!)

If you love Aragorn, why not meet him in a dark alley? 😛
I would love to meet in a dark alley: Sabetha. What a beautiful seductress!
I would hate to meet in a dark alley: Sabetha. Master thief who leaves men with nothing!
Haha, brilliant about Sabetha. I’m going to have to think of somebody now who I’d love and hate to meet at the same time. This is tough! Damn you!! mmmm
Loki’s the Trickster–he’s supposed to be unreliable!
Dresden would make good back-up… except people are always trying to kill him, so he’d probably make life more dangerous.
He’s definitely unreliable – but I still sort of like him.
Dresden – he brings a whole bucket load of trouble BUT – he’s a magician AND he can’t resist a woman in distress.
Lynn 😀
I don’t think I have ever hated anyone as much as Joffrey!
Missie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
It seems that he’s fairly universally disliked! I can’t imagine anybody having any sympathy for him at all.
Thanks for stopping by.
Lynn 😀
Ah yes, seeking advice from Wit should really only be done for entertainment purposes. If you gain any knowledge from the encounter, more power to you.
And yes, it would be great to have Harry Dresden on your side in a bad situation.
Haha! Oh yes, I wouldn’t mind bumping into Jean Tannen in a dark alley, provided we weren’t enemies.
I don’t think anybody could get any real advice from Wit – unless they were a bit loopy that is!! It would be fun to try though and I’ve got to admit I’d love to meet him.
Harry Dresden is the man! Plus, he can’t resist a woman in distress.
Hah, the lovely Jean – definitely wouldn’t want to be his enemy though – not with those sisters!

# 1, 3, 7, 8, 10 – Totally agree! The rest I’ll have to read. 🙂
I hate Joffrey too although not sure anyone likes him! As for characters I love I would stick with Lord of the Rings but choose Samwise Gamgee.
‘I ain’t be dropping no eaves – don’t turn me into anything unnatural like’. I do love Sam – so many good quotes from that whole film/book!
Lynn 😀
Great list, love how you picked a different reason for each. Aragorn… yes, please! Joffrey is just so unbelievably easy to hate, it’s unreal. I love Lestat, but I agree he probably wouldn’t be the best person to meet in a dark alley. Nice picks! Here’s my TTT 🙂
OMG – everybody hates Joffrey – literally EVERYBODY! I know what you mean, I really kinda like him but not sure I’d want to meet him – I’ve got used to having blood circulating around my body after all!
Lynn 😀
Haha, very wise to not cross swords with Inigo! Great man to have on your side, but not to fence with…
Indeed!
