b2bf5-toptentuesday2

This week on the Broke and the Bookish the topic is top 10 books on your Spring 2014 list.  I confess I’m looking forward to so many books at the moment so, this should be easy (some of these are already released, some awaited):

  1. Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence – new trilogy – very excited about this one
  2. Sworn in Steel by Douglas Hulick – Tale of the Kin, book No.2 (Among Thieves was the first and was very good)
  3. The Boy with the Porcelain Blade by Patrick Den – The Erebus Sequence book No.1
  4. Icefall by Gillian Philip – Rebel Angels, book No.4 – this series is awesome sauce
  5. Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson – The Stormlight Archive, book No.2, yes, it’s epic, truly epic – but worth it!
  6. Thief’s Magic by Trudi Canavan – book No.1 Millennium’s Rule – this will be by first foray into Trudi Canavan’s books
  7. The Gospel of Loki by Joanne Harris – I love Joanne Harris and heard her read a section of this book at a recent event – it sounds great.
  8. Morningside Fall by Jay Posey – Duskwalker  Cycle No.2 (No.1 was very original and I’m looking forward to more of the same)
  9. The Copper Promise by Jen Williams (a new debut novel that has received excellent reviews)
  10. The Tropic of Serpents by Marie Brennan – Memoirs by Lady Trent No.2 – Dragons!! (plus if you’re a bit of a cover freak – go and check out the covers for these books – A History of Dragons is No.1 and the cover is gorgeous!

I showed you mine now show me yours! (pretty please)

Is Sworn in Steel finally coming out? 😀 And I’m also looking forward to Prince of Fools (although I *still* have Emperor of Thorns to read…) and The Boy with the Porcelain Blade! And it looks like I’ll need to check out The Copper Promise!
The books I’m most looking forward to at the moment are Jonathan L. Howard’s Brothers Cabal (fourth in the Johannes Cabal series) and Hannu Rajaniemi’s The Causal Angel! Unfortunately, neither is coming out in the spring…

Yes, Sworn in Steel is due out on 8th May – that still counts for Spring I figure! The Copper Promise is getting some really strong reviews and I’m pretty certain it’s a standalone – which is practically unheard of. I’ll have to check out both these series you mention – not heard of them (I do live under a rock though!)

i have heard of a lot of these authors, and only read one of them……so shameful! I will have to keep my eye out for some of these. Marie Brennan books have some of the best covers.

Wow. I have only read two authors on that list. I got some reading to do.

I’m still trying to decide if I should do the Sanderson group read. I’m slammed for the next few weeks, but it’s Sanderson. I’m thinking of getting the audiobook and listening on my runs. Might encourage me to go on a run.

You should definitely do the group read – it’s only 100 pages a week which (and don’t quote me because maths is not my strong point) but approx 14 pages a day!!! We’re just taking a stroll through the book really – 10 weeks! No breakneck speed. Nice and casual. I know you’ve got deadlines but this could be your reward for sticking on target…. talking you into it yet??? *wiggles eyebrows*

What this list really needs is a slew of exploding spaceships. Or supernovae. Or physics.

There may be a post pigging back off this a bit in my near future.
