My library

Okay, we’re all having a bit of a show and tell about our local library.  This is a picture of mine…

Stockport Library

I love this place.  It’s only a small library but the staff are great and I always feel excited going in – you never know what you’re going to find after all.  Plus I usually have about 3 books waiting at any given time.  On top of that they sell off books and they’re so cheap it would be an insult not to buy them.  I recently bought Interview with a Vampire for less than £1.

The next picture is of Central Library in Manchester.  This is a really beautiful building on the inside and the out.  I spent a lot of time in this library as I used to work at the Town Hall which is practically next door (second image).  This is a brilliant building – it looks like it’s straight out of a fairy story and the inside is equally as impressive (although I should probably mention it’s currently closed for renovation and refurbishment).

Okay, so look at the picture of the Town Hall – the entrance way (this is not the main entrance but overlooks St Peter’s Square at the rear of the building) – and first level up with two windows, one on either side of the arch – that used to be the office I worked in!  Call over to Dark Cargo and Little Red Reviewer to see their stories.

My library is so small in comparison! Well, I do live in the sticks of the Southwest USA. I really enjoy the look of each of these buildings.

Stockport library is pretty small – it looks deceptively larger on that pic I think – sort of the opposite of a tardis! Lol.

Manchester Town Hall is a fantastic building, I really can’t deny it. The inside is just amazing. It’s actually not a square building but a triangle (took me ages to figure that out when I first started working there so I kept getting lost!) All the floors are covered in mosaic tiles. There is a beautiful dual staircase in the main foyer and three spiral staircases at each corner – all with stone steps and wrought iron railings. Plus it’s just full of things that you keep noticing. Not to mention a cobbled inner courtyard and some really spooky basements that I think used to be police cells! Can you tell that I love that building. I’m going to stop talking now!

I wanna work there. . . . municipal buildings are ugly where I live. 😦

It is impressive – being a bit of an oddity I really like the creepy basements and the cobbled courtyard!

Those look far nicer than the two libraries I use. That said, they do they have great books/movies/graphic novels.

You can’t really fault libraries can you – I think this year they’ve probably saved me a fortune. I still buy a lot of books but sometimes I want to see if I like the book before I buy! Plus, I’ve been getting the Sandman books from there – I think that full set costs well over £100. So, good times!

I love our Town Hall too! Central Library is a beautiful building but I have been less than impressed when I’ve tried to find books in there. I went in with a friend who asked a member of staff where she could find a copy of Anna Karenina. “Anna who? Is that the title or the author? I’ll have to look it up…”. I hope things pick up when it reopens!

Ha, ha, I suppose the classics aren’t for everyone – even so, Anna Karenina! FGS!!

Your library staff is friendly, that’s cool. The staff at mine is okay, but they don’t seem to help much. The wander around, patrolling, but disappear if it looks like you have a question.

Ha ha, they’ve been trained in body language then! Lol.
