Young Frankenstein

I couldn’t resist.  I’ve been reading all sorts of spooky and scary Autumn reads for the R.I.P. event over at Stainless Steel Droppings and so whilst not entirely in-keeping I’ve had to post about Young Frankenstein which I’m including – even though it’s probably not strictly speaking within the guidelines – being a spoof and all.

Young Frankenstein was directed by Mel Brooks and stars Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman and Madeline Kahn, amongst others.  Bascially it’s  based on Frankenstein’s grandson who has spent his entire life trying to live down his family reputation – even going so far as to pronounce his name ‘Fronkensteen.  That is until he inherits the family’s ancestral home and finds his grandfather’s secret laboratory!

This film is brilliant.  I love it and have watched it a number of times – and it never loses it’s appeal.  The first time I saw this was actually at a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show – many, many years ago on Halloween, and Young Frankenstein was a bonus film screened beforehand.  What an amazing experience.  The Rocky Horror Picture Show has a bit of a cult following and sitting in the audience – which was a mixed bag of people dressed up in all sorts of manner for Halloween plus those dressed as characters from the film such as Magenta and RiffRaff – was such good fun.

Anyway, I’ve got off topic.  Young Frankenstein is shot in black and white.  It’s a horror spoof and obviously mainly based on the story created by Mary Shelley.  There are so many funny moments in this film that it would be impossible to give them all time here.  Below, is a clip that never fails to make me laugh and is without doubt my favourite.  If you haven’t seen this and you fancy a good laugh (especially after reading all this creepy horror, dark fantasy and mystery) then give it a go and if you’ve already seen it and love it – let me know which bit you enjoyed most (if you can possibly bring yourself to choose a single scene that is!)

I love this film! But it is far too hard to pick one scene which is my favourite!

Maybe you could pick three scenes! I know it’s difficult to pick. The particular scene I chose is one that I can watch over and over again and still find it funny.

A spoof still counts doesn’t it? I mean, it’s Frankenstein we’re talking about 😉 I need to watch this, am so ready for something lighthearted this Halloween season!

I wasn’t sure – I wanted to include it but then I couldn’t make up my mind at the last minute so didn’t submit the link! I’m sure Carl wouldn’t be annoyed though – maybe I should include it after all, it’s a bit of something lightheared after all our ghoulish reads!
