“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that was created by Breaking the Spine. Every Wednesday we highlight a book that we’re really looking forward to. This week my book is : The Stone in the Skull (Lotus Kingdoms #1) by Elizabeth Bear
The Stone in the Skull, the first volume in her new trilogy, takes readers over the dangerous mountain passes of the Steles of the Sky and south into the Lotus Kingdoms.
The Gage is a brass automaton created by a wizard of Messaline around the core of a human being. His wizard is long dead, and he works as a mercenary. He is carrying a message from a the most powerful sorcerer of Messaline to the Rajni of the Lotus Kingdom. With him is The Dead Man, a bitter survivor of the body guard of the deposed Uthman Caliphate, protecting the message and the Gage. They are friends, of a peculiar sort.
They are walking into a dynastic war between the rulers of the shattered bits of a once great Empire.
Due October 2017 so not too much longer to wait.
That cover is stunning!👌
It really is absolutely gorgeous.
Lynn 😀
Sounds good. Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks 😀
I’m really into automatons lately, so I’m glad to see another book using that story element. Very cool!
Yeah, now you mention it it is a popular theme at the moment.
Lynn 😀
Is that a dragon in the upper part of the cover? A blood-dripping dragon, at that?
SOLD! 😀
Haha – well spotted.
Lynn 😀
I’m really looking forward to this too! I haven’t read her Eternal Sky trilogy so I was pretty happy to hear it’s not a prerequisite to reading this even though it’s set in the same world.
I know what you mean – I did read the first book and then as usual fell behind. I have to start becoming a bit firmer about not taking on more series until I’ve finished some off.
Lynn 😀
Ooo… I love the look of that cover and I enjoy Elizabeth Bear’s writing, so I need to look out for this one – once I get my TBR under control.
These dratted TBRs – they’re running amok.
Lynn 😀
I think they breed when I’m not looking…
Haha 😀
