Weekly Wrap Up :12/3/17
Nearly half way through March and whilst my plans may not have exactly stayed perfectly on track I’m getting along okay with my review books – I still need to catch up with a few reviews but I had a good week in terms of reading. I finished the two books below and am partially through Island of Exiles by .
Last week’s reads:
- Defence of Ráth Bládhma (Fionn mac Cumhaill #1) by Brian O’Sullivan (SPFBO book) – this was really good and I rated it 8.5 stars out of ten.
- Red Sister by Mark Lawrence – completely different than Mr Lawrence’s two previous trilogies – excellent reading and a compelling main character in Nona.
This week I’m hoping to complete Island of Exiles and also read Heart of Stone by Ben Galley and Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi. Let’s see how it goes.
And, finally, my cover compare this week:
Which is your favourite? I like the first cover – although the green is rather spectacularly eye catching.
How was your week? What you currently reading?

Ooohh, I’m hoping to start Red Sister this week….hoping!😂
Also hoping to start Red Sister soon! I was deciding between which two books to start and RS was one of them but I tossed a coin and the other one won out 🙂
Ohhh, I wonder what the other book was….
Two strong books this week… I’ve heard lots of good things about Red Sister and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I prefer the first Scalzi cover, like you though mostly because I loathe the putrid green:). Have a great week, Lynn.
I loved Red Sister. It’s very different from Lawrence’s other books – still harsh and gritty but it has this whole school of assassins coming of age thing going on and Lawrence just, for me, has a gift with words. Some authors will always be able to entrance me with their wordy magic and he’s one of those.
Lynn 😀
I think I am the only one not in love with Red Sister. I didn’t hate it and will give it three stars but I will definitely be on the outside looking in when reviews start to hit.
I must admit that I love coming of age type novels and when written in Lawrence’s style I was always going to love it. When I look at the actual plot – well, it doesn’t feel epic so far does it but I just love the attention to detail. It’s like the Ryan book Blood Song – I loved the first half of that book – the second half was good but I wanted more of the first part when Vaelin was in training.
Lynn 😀
I love the green of the second cover but prefer the layout of the first cover. I have had an okay week – finishing Faith and Moonlight 2 by Mark Gelineau & Joe King and now I am reading My Lady Ludlow by Elizabeth Gaskell; my fiftieth and final Classics Club book!
I like the sound of the Gaskell – look forward to your review for that one.
Lynn 😀
Yes, the first Scalzi cover has the better look, but it’s a difficult choice, because the green one is just as good. 🙂
The green one is certainly very striking.
Lynn 😀
I agree with the first cover 🙂 There is more going on.
