We wants it, we needs it. Must have the preciousss…

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish is all about sequels that you can’t wait to get your mits upon.  I’ve decided to put up 5 books that I’m actually waiting for the next or final book in the series and then I’ve altered it slightly so that the last 5 books are books that I wish could/would be written!

5 books I’m awaiting – or waiting to read:

  1. Sworn in Steel by Douglas Hulick, No.2 in the Tale of the Kin series (No.1 Among Thieves).
  2. Daylighters by Rachel Caine – No.15 and the finale in the Morganville Vampire Series (who knew this would be 15 books at the start!)
  3. Icefall by Gillian Philip – (No.4 in the Rebel Angel series) – me wants it.
  4. Dr Sleep by Stephen King (follow up to The Shining)- I actually do own this and can’t wait to read it!
  5. The Descent by Alma Katsu (book 3 of the immortal Trilogy) due in 2014, which, as it happens, is AGES AWAY.

5 books that I wish had sequels, in an alternate universe or something like that:

  1. The Graveyard book by Neil Gaiman – more adventures from Bod (The Teenage Years).
  2. Sunshine by Robin McKinley.
  3. The Lord of the Rings – The Return of Sauron – come on – it would be awesome, return to middle world, Aragorn, the hobbits – all on a new adventure.  Yes, I know it’s not going to happen, but…
  4. More from the Broken Empire by Mark Lawrence- ‘Jorg – the lost diaries’ (haha, imagine that Jorg kept a diary!! if you’ve read these you’ll understand).  Okay anything with Jorg will be okay.  The Return of Jorg?? (let me have my dreams)
  5. Moxyland – Lauren Beukes – I could definitely return for more adventures in this world.

Now, if you could have any book.  ANY. BOOK.  Imaginary or in the process – what would it be???

Wow, did you make all the way to book 14 on Morganville Vampires??? I made it to 8 and stopped but I really should finish them! And I think Shadows is set in the same world as Sunshine, if not an actual sequel. That one made my list 🙂

What. What. What’s all this Shadows business – i think I love you a little bit right now… goes to check it out!
And, yes, all the way to the FBI (okay No.14). But, I just thought there’d be two or three!!!!

Great list! I’m going to be reading Zoo City by Lauren Beukes this month, she sounds like a great writer.
Come see my TTT post 🙂

Lauren Beukes is brilliant – well the two books I’ve read of hers would suggest so! The Shining Girls and Zoo City. And both such different styles of novel.
I hope you enjoy Zoo City.

I’m afraid Hollywood will soon take your Return of Sauron idea and make a movie out of it. 🙂

I’m curious about what you’ll think of Dr Sleep. I hear it’s awesome!

I’m really looking forward to it. Oh, and I also picked up the next Donna Tartt – the Goldfinch – really looking forward to that one too!

I love that you made this about nonexistent sequels you want! I want the last three-quarters of John Carter and the Skeleton Men of Jupiter. Edgar Rice Burroughs started writing novellas towards the end of his career, and would combine four into a full novel. He wrote the first one for Skeleton Men, and there *appears* to be a conclusion…but I know how his stories go so I’m absolutely, 100% positive that the heroine was in dire distress even though the hero/narrator ends the book thinking all is well–and then Burroughs died before writing the rest. So that’s not exactly a sequel, but that’s the unattainable story I want!

And I want the remaining two books in Cat Valente’s Fairyland series, which won’t be out until next fall (and the fall after). And…well, that’s off the top of my head, but this is so intriguing I may have to give it more thought!

I know, I quite like the idea of looking at the books that I really wish were out there! Yes to Cat Valente although I still need to read the last one *headdesk*. That’s the annoying thing with all the cliffhanger stories these days – look at your example above.

Sequel to The Graveyard Book, YES. We wants more Silas. We needs more Silas. 🙂

I would definitely read more stories from the Graveyard.

I would also want another Lord of the Rings novel but I would want a story following Bilbo, Frodo, Gandalf, and the elves who travel to the grey shores.

What a good idea! Although I always thought the ending was supposed to portray something sad. Perhaps I shouldn’t say that though as I’m probably wrong anyway!
