Friday Face Off : ‘Beware the moon, lads.’
Here we are again with the Friday Face Off meme created by Books by Proxy . This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite. Future week’s themes are listed below – the list has been updated to help out those of you who like to plan ahead – if you have a cover in mind that you’re really wanting to share then feel free to leave a comment about a future suggested theme. I’ve also listed events that take place during the year, that I’m aware of, so you can link up your covers – if you’re aware of any events that you think I should include then give me a shout. This week’s theme:
‘Beware the moon, lads.’ – A cover with a shapeshifter
Hopefully this week’s theme wasn’t too much of a struggle. Shapeshifting is a fairly well used theme in the world of fantasy. This week I’ve gone with : Bitten (Otherworld #1) by Kelley Armstrong. I’ve only read the first in the series and that was some time ago. I didn’t continue, not because I didn’t like the book, more because I think I had so many series on the go at the particular time – have you read this series? Do you think I should return to it?
The covers:
The top right corner is the version that I read.
The covers I like best are:
My favourite this week is:
I also really like the simplicity of the black cover with the spots of blood.
Which one is your favourite?
Like last week I’ve added a Mr Linky here so that you can leave a link if you wish or please leave me a link in the comments so we can all visit and check out each others covers. Thanks
I’ve updated the list and included themes through to the end of 2019 – I’ve also included events that I’m aware of so that you can perhaps link your themes up where possible (if you know of an event you’d like to share that let me know in the comments). I also have a list prepared for 2020 and so will set up a separate page soon for forthcoming themes. As always, if you wish to submit an idea then leave me a comment.
Next week – A cover featuring a king

One of my favorite series – and one I’ve actually read all the books. I adore the blue one in the middle of your three faves. I’m not usually a fan of people on books but I do like the one you chose. It does seem done very well and the wolves at the bottom of it are nice additions.
It’s not my usual type of cover to be honest, and I don’t really know how it fits the series, but it just appealed to me.
Lynn 😀
I like the second one on top (the wolf) and the one with just the yellow eyes, second on the second row.
Wolves and eyes – always work for me.
Lynn 😀
[…] UK and US book covers and decide which is we prefer. This meme is currently being nurtured by Lynn’s Book Blog and the subject this week featuring on any of our covers is SHAPESHIFTERS, so I’ve selected a […]
Yep – definitely should return to the series. I think you’d love the way the storyline develops and the characters grow and change throughout. As for the covers – while your choice is certainly the most beautiful, I don’t think it encapsulates the savagery that is always present in these books – I’d plump for the first cover with that wolf peering out from behind the naked girl… A great choice for this week’s theme, Lynn!
I really do think it’s a series that I would like – so many series though. I need to make a choice and settle down to one that I’m going to see through.
Lynn 😀
I know! I’ve got to get realistic about the series I’m intending to see through to the end, too…
Yeah – best intentions and plans though!
Lynn 😀
Oh absolutely!
First of all, I’m really happy to see themes for the rest of the year. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention and you added these weeks ago?? Oh well. I love your choice this week, and I agree with your favorite, that cover immediately grabbed my attention 😁
Haha – prepare to be really happy then, I’ve drawn up the themes for the following year too! I went on a mission.
Lynn 😀

The middle cover in the row of your “best liked” is my favorite: I love the colors, the naked branches framing the upper part of the picture and – of course – the wolf. Just perfect… 🙂
Yep, the wolf, of course.
Lynn 😀
I like the middle of your three favorites best! I haven’t read this one but I love shapeshifter fantasy so I will have to check it out!
This is a series I want to try, after having gotten a taste of Armstrong’s thrillers, it’s high time for to read her fantasy. Love that cover, and the “silk screen” effect 🙂 I’m also excited about new themes!
If I can ever get my act together I’d like to do a separate page that has past and future themes! Oh for some extra time.
Yeah, I’ve always fancied reading Armstrong’s shapeshifter series – it seems to have been very popular and I enjoyed the first – I think I got sucked into various other series at the time and so this one got neglected.
Lynn 😀
Ooh some of these are really nice. I especially like the ones with all that dark blue- for some reason it appeals. I think I like all three of your favorites, and the Knaur version just screams werewolf to me as well, with the eyes and the forest.
Yeah, I thought there were some nice covers to choose from this week.
Lynn 😀
Despite loving Urban Fantasy I have yet to read Armstrong! I really love the cover you picked for this one, Lynn.
Thanks – I need to read this series really.
Lynn 😀
Lynn, I agree with your choice. It instantly caught my eye out of the rest. 🙂
It’s quite a beautiful cover really.
